As you may suspect, I am on a quest to be able to live in BALANCE with mold. I am not one to run from a fight, though after thoroughly studying fungus and mold toxins, both experientially in my body, and reading through tons of articles and comments of others experiences—most would RUN and throw all moldy items away!

There’s even a Low Mold Diet for those who are battling toxic mold exposure. And to be sure, if you are one of these unfortunate souls, it is no joke—mold toxicity is serious business!

Living in nature: Mold

Yet, after removing all our RV cabinet doors today, here we sit, feeling much freer of mind. In fact, though I know this is only the beginning, I am feeling a sense of victory!

Off Grid means more than living without a power pole

You see, when we moved our 5th wheel, (or fiver), to the northeastern part of Florida to live Off Grid, nearly a year ago, we knew we’d face challenges.

We didn’t think about the dampness here though. Even though ferns and moss grow here. Even though Spanish moss hangs from the trees. And the ground itself is squishy in spots, where vines and roots grow abundantly in the dark of the earth.

No, I must say that I bought it when people said, “Move to the country, it’ll be fun!” and “Get back to Nature.” Oh, yes, I said those things too. And then Life showed me what a bitch it could be!

How the hell did people live in Florida a hundred years ago?

Insert evil gregarious laugh here.

Some still live in Florida without climate control. Shocker, right?

I drive by many places, especially in the rural areas of Florida and Georgia, where I doubt folks have air conditioning. And many people think Florida is tropical and balmy with a near constant breeze. Not where we live.

We live inland, about an hour’s drive to the Atlantic ocean. And while we don’t get sunshine daily, we also don’t always get the rain that surrounding areas get. It’s been a bit strange.

Solar with trees all around

Speaking of low sunshine, we live in the Sunshine state, but we also live on wooded property. Probably not the best place to live Off Grid, but that wasn’t my idea. And now, all I can do is apply the Serenity Prayer.

Learning from the trees

As I meditate, I come away with lessons from this experience, and from walking among these trees. I can stand strong in my power, changing the things I can!

  • I don’t use chemicals for bug repellent
  • I enjoy watching bats and dragonflies eat mosquitoes
  • I wear natural fiber clothing (against my skin), that can be thoroughly cleaned, and I know the difference now, as only natural fibers mold
  • I wear jackets and coats (heavier things that are more costly), made of recycled synthetic materials
  • I don’t color my hair or wear makeup
  • I don’t need to shower daily
  • I enjoy what’s in my immediate surroundings: stars, moon, birds, and neighbors
  • I work to be more present for those I love
  • We truly are All Connected
  • Swaying brings Balance
  • Life always finds a way

Applying Qigong principles

Instead of chemicals, I look to Nature and lean into it for answers to the issues we face.

I learned a thing or two from growing up in The Chemical Valley of West Virginia (and if you want to know more about that place, watch the excellent movie by Mark Ruffalo called, Dark Waters).

I learned,

  • You can’t beat Mother Nature or Multi-national corporations like, DuPont.
  • The body is fabulously resilient with a bit of help
  • When your heart says, “Move”—Listen. And move. Thank God I moved from WV to FL when I was 22
  • Let nothing (No Thing) stop you

I learned Life is good, and God is good, ALL the time.
