Off Grid RV: Pros and Cons

Pros and Cons of Off Grid RV Living

Why are we calling it quits after 17 months in the woods?

Read on. It really comes down to sustainability. Our mental and physical sustainability.

Compare and Contrast

Pros

Through sheer will, I’ve been able to turn most of the things that challenged me, into transformative processes! And there have been good times.

  • I walked barefoot in the beach sand of the country road. (This grounded me and eased lonely feelings.)
  • I developed and committed to a daily Gratitude process, that I codified into Integrated Spiral.
  • I loved communing with the grandmother tree on the property and gaining resilience from her.
  • I enjoyed stargazing and looking at the moon on clear nights and dancing outside.
  • We enjoyed hanging out with My son, his girlfriend, and our neighbors.
  • I loved grilling food outside on my son’s Cuisinart propane grill
  • I perfected pan frying frozen salmon and tuna on a gas stove!
  • I loved the sounds of nature.
  • I loved watching the birds, bats, dragonflies, and butterflies.
  • I loved planting herbs and trees. And putting in a garden. My herbs and trees grew well.
  • I enjoyed sitting in a 3 foot deep pool on a hot day with a cold adult beverage in hand.

Cons

  • Generating enough power. I could write a book on generators now. I’m not kidding! And even though we live innthe sunshine state, we didn’t get enough sun on our solar panels to meet our needs.
  • We did use less. We turned off our RV refrigerator and bought a dorm size fridge. Used our microwave for only 30 seconds at a time, eventually quit using it after my son tried using it for 6 minutes (after we had installed a new inverter and new lithium batteries and knocked out our power—it was never quite right after that).
  • We did without our electric fireplace, which we always loved. It used too much power. My son put in a small propane buddy heater to resolve our heating needs in the winter, and that worked well.
  • We couldn’t run our built in RV vacuum. It used too much power.
  • We tried living the first few months without air conditioning. I couldn’t work (with sweat running from my armpits), and do all I was doing without AC. We had to run one dedicated generator (turning it on/off several times a day) to maintain a comfortable temp and humidity. My son had to direct wire it.
  • Speaking of my son, we had to rely on him for any handy work that had to be done. No RV tech, electrician or such would come to the country or come out during COVID.
  • Speaking of humidity, we had to deal with mold inside the RV. We removed all the cabinet doors and ran two or three small fans and two dehumidifiers to establish proper air flow and ventilation.
  • Bugs. The county doesn’t spray for mosquitoes, which is also good (reduces our toxic load), provides food for lizards, bats, etc. But we can’t step out our door without something biting us. And even while taking a shower outside in the bathhouse, we swat a few bugs away—and duck when a mama bird chose to build a nest in there!
  • Speaking of critters, we only saw one snake, but thought we heard sasquatch one night! Though that inspired a song!
  • Falling tree limbs. Yes, falling trees and branches have killed people! Enough said.
  • Our vegetable garden failed. First year it was too hot or we planted too late. Second year it rained too much.
Why are we calling it quits?

Irony

I didn’t want to pay $500 a month for RV park lot rent (that included $100 worth of electricity per month), because the park had raised its monthly rent $50 a month each year we’d lived there, and we had no amenities.

YET, after moving to the country (to my son’s property), we spent $25k+ on solar setup to live rent free Off Grid. AND after 17 months of that (mentally and physically challenging time), we are now (about to be) paying $1000 a month, plus electricity, for a 1 bedroom apartment! Hahahaha!!!

The only difference is that we’ve never lived in a 55+ community before! Hope we’ll like it!

Green Acres

Get back to Nature they said. It will be fun they said! Life showed me what a bitch it could be!

Given all the Pros detailed above, here’s the thing: Life is unsustainable. All good things must come to an end. Bodies eventually get old and tired. And though this unique (yet old and basic) lifestyle seems like it would be fun, exciting, and glamorous—it takes W-O-R-K. A whole lotta work!

And after living on grid all our lives, we’re lazy and spoiled. And that’s okay!

March 2020, I wrote:

Learning from the trees

As Roger Miller famously sings, “You can’t roller skate in a buffalo herd.” And apparently, we can’t get enough sun on solar panels in the woods.

Yet, I continue to meditate upon what I’ve learned. This experience has bared me to my soul. I can stand strong in my power, determining with wisdom, what I can and cannot change.

Perhaps you noticed I had 11 Pros and 11 Cons to Off Grid RV living in my lists above. Choosing to stay or go really comes down to the deal breakers, and how much we are willing to put up with.

When an available apartment figuratively, fell into our laps, we felt it was the right move to make. After all, Everything in life is temporary, so why not rent?

Life is good, and God is good—ALL the time.

Be the change: Support small businesses

Supporting small businesses

This is really the crux of it, No one should be worked to death so billionaires, bankers, insurance companies, lawyers, shareholders and government can profit from other people’s labour. Period.

That’s the real pyramid scheme.

I inherently believe things must change.

The arguments I always hear when discussing this topic, is that the billionaires deserve to reap rewards for the risk they took to start the business; investors deserve to receive usury on the investment capital they put in to get the business going; banks deserve to profit from the startup capital loans they risked; founders deserve to be rewarded for their creative ideas and vision, etc.

I want things to be fair and kind, but capitalism sure doesn’t seem setup that way.

What to do?

Vote with your dollars!

Support businesses that create, work, and live by the same principles you follow.

Here are some examples:

Where do you shop?

I love helping small businesses grow. I shop local and bank online with Aspiration because I like a bank with a conscious that doesn’t support big oil.

I vote with my dollars and support businesses that are co-operatives (co-ops), employee-owned, etc. I stopped knowingly buying anything (or giving to charities) where CEOs were getting offensively rich. ❤️🦋🌀🙏☯️

Program Review: Integrated Spiral

Reviews of the Integrated Spiral Program

Background

I got my first real taste of depression in 2020. I fell in a deep dark “hole” (mentally) for a couple of months. I wasn’t mySelf. Thankfully, I climbed out, but it wasn’t always easy. And I was very grumpy.

I had put on 20 pounds. Twenty EXTRA pounds I didn’t need or want.

  • I felt helpless
  • I felt confused
  • I felt apathetic
  • I felt hopeless

Even though I knew I was loved (by my family), I didn’t feel lovable.

I felt abandoned by friends (though I chatted with some on Facebook).

I didn’t feel good physically.

And I felt very far away from my previous “vibrant life.”

I’d felt frustrated and had been in a state of overwhelm since moving to “off grid” life, then hit with the COVID lockdown. But, this downward spiral felt different. Emotionally, I felt shutdown. Yet, I knew I had the answers all around me. I needed to find a way to integrate what I already had INTO each day!

Once I found a way up and out, I wrote about it (because that’s what I do). I left mySelf breadcrumbs to pull mySelf up and out again, if I ever let mySelf fall into that mind cavern again. And from my writings, Integrated Spiral was born. ❤️🦋🌀🎼🙏☯️

Integrated Spiral. Because you can’t put woo-woo in a box. ❤️🦋🌀🎼🤣

I took the best “stick to it” processes (that I had learned but hadn’t implemented) and put them into a loose, wiggly, flow vs structure that at the end of 4 weeks allows anyone to figure out and design their own ritual… part breathwork, meditation, physical movement, and ALL gratitude! Yeah, baby!! ((It is what I’ve been doing for 5-6 months to beat depression, nighttime snacking, and lose 30 pounds.)) ❤️😉

Integrated Spiral Beta Testing

I knew my process worked for me. But would it work for others?

Review #1 – after the end of the first week. Sent to me from a long-time friend participating in the program not anticipating what it was about or how she might benefit. Here’s what she experienced:

“It actually really opened something up for me. And since I’ve been nose to grindstone and not open in a long time, this opening arrived pouring a lot in very quickly. Feeling great yesterday and today, excited for (next) Sunday!”

Review # 2 – my first lovely participant wrote:

“If you are sharing results, I’m letting you know that helped me so much and I realized I’m writing on the side that I wear my bracelets on, so I’m figuring that they may be putting out bad energy rather than receiving too much of it and truthfully I don’t receive well…”

Review # 3 – another dear friend participating in Integrated Spiral sent this message after the second week:

“I wasn’t feeling well before our session and I’m still not feeling great. I did too much last week. I have to be more discerning with my energy each day. 😚 p.s. We all enjoy when you speak!!!! Don’t think about “speaking too much”. 😂”

“You are a wealth of knowledge!!!!!!!! I appreciate all you share.”

Mood

Yes, I had gained 20 pounds in 3 months due to being stressed and depressed—mood can trigger all kinds of hormonal changes… plus, all the self sabotaging-thoughts like, “we’re all gonna die, so I’ll eat what I want” that seem to crop up when all you hear is doom and freaking gloom crap! But, thankfully, when I got my head back on straight, I released all 20 pounds in about 4.5 months.

Now, I feel so accomplished and motivated to lose the rest of the excess weight I’ve carried on my body for over 20 years! —Read more about what I’m doing here: https://sheilamurrey.net/2020/12/20/integration-diet/

More Off Grid RV: Living in Nature with Mold

As you may suspect, I am on a quest to be able to live in BALANCE with mold. I am not one to run from a fight, though after thoroughly studying fungus and mold toxins, both experientially in my body, and reading through tons of articles and comments of others experiences—most would RUN and throw all moldy items away!

There’s even a Low Mold Diet for those who are battling toxic mold exposure. And to be sure, if you are one of these unfortunate souls, it is no joke—mold toxicity is serious business!

Living in nature: Mold

Yet, after removing all our RV cabinet doors today, here we sit, feeling much freer of mind. In fact, though I know this is only the beginning, I am feeling a sense of victory!

Off Grid means more than living without a power pole

You see, when we moved our 5th wheel, (or fiver), to the northeastern part of Florida to live Off Grid, nearly a year ago, we knew we’d face challenges.

We didn’t think about the dampness here though. Even though ferns and moss grow here. Even though Spanish moss hangs from the trees. And the ground itself is squishy in spots, where vines and roots grow abundantly in the dark of the earth.

No, I must say that I bought it when people said, “Move to the country, it’ll be fun!” and “Get back to Nature.” Oh, yes, I said those things too. And then Life showed me what a bitch it could be!

How the hell did people live in Florida a hundred years ago?

Insert evil gregarious laugh here.

Some still live in Florida without climate control. Shocker, right?

I drive by many places, especially in the rural areas of Florida and Georgia, where I doubt folks have air conditioning. And many people think Florida is tropical and balmy with a near constant breeze. Not where we live.

We live inland, about an hour’s drive to the Atlantic ocean. And while we don’t get sunshine daily, we also don’t always get the rain that surrounding areas get. It’s been a bit strange.

Solar with trees all around

Speaking of low sunshine, we live in the Sunshine state, but we also live on wooded property. Probably not the best place to live Off Grid, but that wasn’t my idea. And now, all I can do is apply the Serenity Prayer.

Learning from the trees

As I meditate, I come away with lessons from this experience, and from walking among these trees. I can stand strong in my power, changing the things I can!

  • I don’t use chemicals for bug repellent
  • I enjoy watching bats and dragonflies eat mosquitoes
  • I wear natural fiber clothing (against my skin), that can be thoroughly cleaned, and I know the difference now, as only natural fibers mold
  • I wear jackets and coats (heavier things that are more costly), made of recycled synthetic materials
  • I don’t color my hair or wear makeup
  • I don’t need to shower daily
  • I enjoy what’s in my immediate surroundings: stars, moon, birds, and neighbors
  • I work to be more present for those I love
  • We truly are All Connected
  • Swaying brings Balance
  • Life always finds a way

Applying Qigong principles

Instead of chemicals, I look to Nature and lean into it for answers to the issues we face.

I learned a thing or two from growing up in The Chemical Valley of West Virginia (and if you want to know more about that place, watch the excellent movie by Mark Ruffalo called, Dark Waters).

I learned,

  • You can’t beat Mother Nature or Multi-national corporations like, DuPont.
  • The body is fabulously resilient with a bit of help
  • When your heart says, “Move”—Listen. And move. Thank God I moved from WV to FL when I was 22
  • Let nothing (No Thing) stop you

I learned Life is good, and God is good, ALL the time.

2020: Review of a Challenging, Adjusting, and Healing Year

2020 Year in Review: Challenging, Adjusting, and Healing

I was sooo very fortunate to go on a Yoga cruise (facilitated by Cindy Bartz of Tampa, Florida) in January, just after my birthday. Yep. A self-care gift to ME!

Two of my girlfriends went with me and we had a blast! One brought another friend, so the four of us could pal around. It was aWEsOMe! Little did I know then how much I was going to need Yoga, breathwork, and every tip I picked up there during the days, weeks, and months to come.

In Cozumel Mexico Jan 2020

2020 has been an emotionally turbulent year for me. Physically, we moved from Merritt Island, Florida on Feb. 29th, and then, days later, the emotional rollercoaster of the COVID-19 virus began (with all of its associated fear mongering, misinformation, disinformation, judgmental attitudes, lockdowns, etc. And we don’t even watch the news!), but I hear enough from my own circles of influence.

We had all kinds of plans for 2020. But most got canceled or postponed, and we couldn’t even explore our new area either. And that all set me up for depression, weight gain (and thankfully now, weight loss), along with some extremely tense and emotional days (as we fumbled with adjusting to off grid living).

Minding My Energy became like a cosmic joke—played on ME! (This is a t-shirt design I made in 2019, way before I knew I would have to literally manage our energy when we moved “off grid”!

In hindsight, we shouldn’t have tackled moving off the grid this year, but we really had NO IDEA how cRaZy challenging it would be, or that something called COVID would occur.

My son on the roof of our 5th wheel to cut tree branches so “we’d fit” into our RV off grid spot.

On the other hand, we’re now, considered “preppers,” and fairly self-contained (and ready) to handle whatever comes our way! Haha!

Awakening

I did manage to make it to emcee the Awakening Into the Sun outdoor yoga and music festival the first weekend in March (it’s an annual event). But even that weekend presented issues for me.

Crystal Bay hotel in St. Pete (where we usually stay), was booked solid, so I chose a different hotel near the park and I could walk to the event. That turned out to be the wrong choice for me, because between the downtown traffic, and the fact that it got cold that night and the window wouldn’t close in the hotel room bathroom, I was cold and couldn’t sleep. And though I complained to the front desk, no one came to fix the window.

I love doing emcee work, and the festival was aWEsOMe, but only two of my friends showed up, and there seemed a somber tone hanging over the crowd. We were at a new park this year, much larger, so I remember thinking that was all it was, but just 3 days later we would all become acutely aware of what was going on.

Awakening is such a good word to use to describe all of the challenges I was to experience this year as I managed my own Energy (in myriad ways), and dove into my shadow to shake up the things within me that needed clearing, healing, and balancing.

And while I’m getting there (working my own Integrated Spiral program), I am not as fine tuned as I desire—yet. Maybe I never will be, but that is my work and mission for the rest of my life.

Canceled travel plans

This year, what with all the Stay Home orders, and our secluded living arrangement (though we are camping on the same property as my son), the announcement about COVID, the closing of restaurants and shops, and cancellation of our travel plans, took a toll on my psyche.

My son shaved my head about a month into our living here. No way could I deal with wearing a mask (and not have the rubber bands from in tangle in all my naturally curly hair)! Plus, I felt like I wanted to hang in solidarity with two friends who had lost their hair due to chemo treatments to treat cancer. A show of gratitude and support for them.

Shaving my head also gave me one less thing to think about, as my workload doubled through the summer months too, which didn’t help my stress levels.

List of plans that were canceled or postponed:

  • Alania’s Gainesville retreat (prepaid)
  • SoulTreat (prepaid / postponed to Oct 2021)
  • Rock Your Gift (ticket had been included in price of coaching package – cancelled)
  • 40th High School reunion
  • Trip to my home state to lay my parent’s remains to rest (which was to occur the week I went home for my HS reunion).
2020: Challenging, Adjusting, and Healing

Family comes to Florida

We were lucky to get to see my husband’s sister and her husband this year! So many people decided not to travel. And many campgrounds closed for awhile, which made those who thought about traveling wary (and weary)!

They booked their camping trip within a 30-45 minute drive from our place, and finding it wasn’t easy, but we made it there, and enjoyed our visit immensely. They also camped at another campground outside of St. Augustine, and we drove over there too for an early evening and dinner. That was a lovely park (and much easier to find than the first one had been. Dang GPS that only lead to a back entrance, which was gated and locked with no attendant).

As well, my husband’s twin brothers decided to drive down to see us for a few days this summer, so that was nice too! And though we couldn’t find much to do (one of the botanical gardens we visited had most of their trails closed), at least we got to sit and visit, eat a few meals together, and watch Animusic on DVD in our RV.

Visiting friends in Florida

When professional offices reopened, we took a road trip to Merritt Island, so I could have oral surgery on one of my front teeth (which I had put off for more than a year—more about that here).

We were so starved for social interaction (and missed good friends there), that even with my gums bleeding, we gathered with several friends for two nights out at our old favorite hangout.

Later in the year, in December, we took a short road trip to attend one of my best friends Christmas party. I really needed the emotional reassurance by then. But that was it, as far as travel was concerned for us this year.

Making new friends

I was almost remiss in mentioning that we made new friends this year—our neighbors Aaron and Abby! And as well, my son’s girlfriend—who hung out with us most weekends! Rachael really kept me sane, I think!

And we often hung out by a bonfire on weekend evenings, which helped us let go of the stress from the work week. ❤️😉

🔥 Bonfire 🔥

Sacred Celtic Journey

We are sure glad we went to Ireland, England, and Scotland last year! I doubt we’ll be flying anywhere ever again from all the restrictions that may be put in place. For more about our incredible 2019 trip, read all 3 parts, beginning here.

I am also so thankful when I look back on my winning an ENTRY into the neolithic burial tomb Newgrange chamber for the 2019 Winter Solstice sunrise on Dec 18th!!! Because no one was allowed in the tomb this Winter Solstice! That means, I was one of 60 people (picked from 30,861 applications) to be IN that incredible chamber for the last Winter Solstice (hopefully it will reopen to guests soon).

Here’s to a better 2021!
My Newgrange triple spiral pendant from Ireland, hanging on my mom’s gold chain with my butterfly 🦋 from my bestie since grade school, Doris.

I joked with a friend recently, that if I didn’t know better, I would think I brought COVID back to the USA from Ireland because I had a cRaZy flu days after returning from Ireland last year!

Looking back, I feel the Winter Solstice that didn’t shine sunbeams into the chamber was meant to warn me of the tumultuous year ahead. And that I would be working on my shadow self this year—and I have. ☯️

Seeing my girls

One of the outings I missed the most this year, was my annual trip to see my daughter and granddaughters in New Hampshire. I love them sooo much! And I miss hugging them, taking the oldest to painting sessions, playing games and dolls, and simply smelling their hair (it’s a mommy and grandma thing, I bet)!

Due to COVID, my daughter and I made the mutual decision it would be best for us not to travel and visit. (Mostly due to her wanting to protect me, since I have had a history of asthma—cleared since 2005, and to safeguard my husband, who’s over age 65). But, PROTECT is still a word I meditate on, because I don’t believe one can protect themselves or anyone from everything. Not really. I mean, Life is terminal. If we aren’t living it, what’s it for anyway? ❤️🦋🌀

Thankfully, I get to video chat with my granddaughters often (the eldest one—almost daily), though not getting together with them this year has greatly impacted me emotionally.

Online classes

Because we’ve been staying home, I’ve had more time to participate in online groups and programs. I’ll share a few next:

I participated in a couple short programs offered on Facebook by Alania Starhawk, Janine McJannet, Robin Quinn Keehn, Cheryl Chaffee, Patti Stevens, and Michelle Howe. I’ve linked to their site or programs, so you can get more information as desired. I highly recommend all of these ladies and the work and gifts they share.

I am currently participating in VShred and Activ5 exercise routines. I have been sooo impressed about both of these programs, in particular because of their associated smartphone apps. Read more about that here.

I completed my one year business coaching program that I had bought into last December for my husband and I to figure out how we could work together to showcase his original music, travel, and combine his genius talent, experience, and education with mine. We setup MurreyMakers.com and I include his soft guitar playing within my Integrated Spiral self-coaching, small group transformational program too.

Since I gained weight during the COVID lockdowns, I was offered a really effective diet program through my health insurance. It’s called Omada, and it’s helped me walk more, eat less, improve my mindset and do better with intermittent fasting too! No more counting calories!

Experimenting to find what works

From sitting and gaining weight (going down the rabbit hole, emotional spiral, and my own shadow), I discovered (or uncovered) methods that helped me beat nighttime snacking (hint: essential oils, homemade tinctures and tonics, Activ5, doing my nails and applying Color Street polish, as well as working on creative hobbies); begin and maintain a daily habit of walking outside; and improve my mindset (Everything Resolves to Gratitude).

Winning!

Mid year, I began to think my winning streak was over, but then I won again! It may not sound like much, but I won a $50 gift certificate from author JJ Virgin and stocked up on healthy foods from her website: https://jjvirgin.com

Then, I participated in my Robin’s weeklong Facebook challenge, The CLEPTO Code™ Challenge (her group is called, Overdoers Anonymous), to pick up some new strategies on how to not overcommit.

And get this! The grand prize winner of that challenge, Miles Eddy, gifted me with part of his prize! A $100 gift card! What a complete surprise! We all got so much out of her challenge (aside from the prizes), and I know it’s going to give each of us a boost of confidence to grow and shine in 2021!

You can be a winner too!

Comment on this post to receive a complimentary gift from me to participate in my new transformational self-coaching program!

This small group program helps one find emotional balance and help foster better relationships via improving communication skills. Read more about it here.

I put this new program together to help others find balance because I’m an empath. But, here’s the thing. I thought, until very recently, that I had to fix or save others in order to ease the pain I felt. Not true. I have to process, clear, and lighten my feelings first! Ha!

Full-time RV life: Energy hogs

RV Life Off Grid: Energy hogs

For me, living a wholly vibrant life, includes being a responsible human, yes, even a conscious consumer.

We’ve been living simply for more than 10 years, in an RV full-time, but we still used a lot of traditional electrical equipment (personal care items, household, and outdoor) until we moved off-grid. Wow, have we learned a LOT about electrical energy hogs since February 29th, 2020!

Energy hog #1 – Vacuum cleaners

My husband and I were having a conversation the other day about the true cost of carpet.

When it comes to buying carpeting, we must consider the power consumption used in keeping it clean. All of that vacuuming, shampoo or steam cleaning too!

Our RV vacuum cleaner is one of our biggest energy hogs! (We live off grid and rely on solar panels, batteries, and a generator for our power). ❤️🦋🌀

Energy hog #2 – Microwave ovens

We have to unplug our dorm size fridge (turning it off) every time we want to use the microwave. And we can’t run the microwave (on full power), for more than 30 seconds at a time.

We could turn the power down to 50 percent or so on the microwave, but one has to do that each time you turn it on. It just adds another step to the process.

Energy hog #3 – Refrigerators

Yes, we unplugged our 12 cubic foot matching wood grain panel door, built in RV refrigerator OFF, as soon as we moved to our family “off grid” property. It’s a very expensive (they cost $4,000 new) PANTRY now. Go figure.

Had we known we were going to live off the grid, we wouldn’t have paid $2,000 to repair it a couple of years ago. Where’s my crystal ball?!? 🥺

Energy hog #4 – Electric Fireplace heaters (& other heating appliances)

Right now, it’s a balmy 62 degrees in here and I’m wearing two long sleeve shirts and wool coverup from Ireland. Yep. And we’re running our little electric fireplace for heat.

It was 58 degrees in here when I woke up this morning. It was 35 degrees outside.

Weather app image from my iPhone

This is winter in north Florida. I’m just glad we’re charging our batteries with our solar on this beautiful day. Nope! You can’t charge your the batteries by solar when you’re running the generator for heat!

Granted, we could run the fireplace off the batteries, and let the solar charge the batteries, but the fireplace heater sucks more power than the solar can replace! Ugh.

Solar shed
Panels don’t get much charge when the sun shines through the trees.

Energy hog #5 – Air Conditioning (AC)

I would have listed this in first place, but we didn’t even use our living room (roof mount) AC for the first several months we lived off grid. I just wore loose and lightweight cotton clothing and told myself, “People pay good money to sit in saunas. Sweating is healthy!” until mid summer. Then, after we bought a generator that could actually run our AC unit (not all will), we learned how much it really cost to stay cool.

How do people live in Florida without AC? We are even parked in the shade!

We bought two new slim and tall fans, used every combination of windows open plus the Fantastic fans in the kitchen and bath, and still… I thought I would lose my mind when it reached 90 degrees in here!

By the way, the frameless windows in our Carriage only open 1-2 inches. Who designed those windows?!? 🧐🤪🤯

NOTE: Our 5th wheel (fiver, as some call these things), came with a ceiling fan too, but we found it’s also an energy hog. 😞

Generators

Unfortunately, we don’t feel solar works well enough for everything we need or want to do. But for now, it’s all we’ve got (along with two generators).

Speaking of which, we only run our generators to charge our batteries on cloudy days, or at night. Or when we need heat or air conditioning.

NOTE: We have two generators because we needed a backup, since the first one and its replacement died within the first two months we were here. It’s nice actually, so we can use one to charge the batteries and one to run the AC (as you can’t do that at the same time).

We’re really thankful gas is cheap, less than half the price it cost 4 years ago. 😉😉

FYI: We live in a forest!

Where are generators are
Generators and fuel tank

Energy hogs drain our batteries

All of this “too much drain” on our batteries, works to wear them out.

Granted, we bought used gel type batteries (because we didn’t know how long we’d be here, and days after we moved in COVID lockdowns began), instead of new batteries. And we were told these might last us a year or two. But we really didn’t consider how much we would have to manage these batteries (keep an eye on the monitor, juggle items running, and so on). All of it can wrack ones nerves, especially for us old farts! LOL

I told my son (who owns this property, set up all our solar system, and maintains our generators), “I think off grid living is a young man’s game.”

Agree? Disagree?

Do you live off grid, or rely on solar power?

What are your experiences? Let me know in the comments. ⬇️⬇️⬇️

Crystal love!

I love crystals!

I can’t believe I haven’t written an article about crystals, until now! I have been collecting articles about crystals for awhile, and have books also, such as:

Crystal Bible

Crystal Bible 2

Crystal Bible 3

Not that these are the only books about crystals that I have, but they are the best for me to have in paperback form, as a full-time RVer (which, means we live in an RV = little space). In fact, I only order ebooks now. I have more than enough paper books—more than I could read in the rest of my life!

From the ground

I’ve had a thought for years that my wealth is “in the ground.”

Ever since my hubby and I watched a show on TV about this place where ine can dif in the dirt for diamonds, rubies, and such, I have wanted to go to Crater of Diamonds state park in Arkansas.

Would you like to go dig in the dirt with me? Please comment and share your crystal digging experiences! 💎

Difference and Ego

I love crystals and what they have to teach us about Ego; each are imbued with different gifts from the earth, yet one is not superior than another. Each type of crystal offers different aspects of beauty, brilliance, and energy.

To quote a beautiful like-minded friend,

At a higher vibration than arrogance (which only masks low self esteem), true Humility opens one up into a compassionate community supporting healthy self esteem, valuing each equally, enjoying ALL as we are all a part of each other, coming from the same creator source in Love.

Healing mind and body

As I wrote previously (here in the comments, and here), I’m integrating crystals (minerals) more and more into my daily life. In particular, I’m using crystals to help ease negative energy out of my body when I feel anxious watching certain emotional movies or shows.

And the last time I went to the dentist (oral surgeon) to have a broken root canal tooth removed), I held a rose quartz pocket crystal to help me through the experience—and it did)!

Pocket rose quartz heart crystal

Energy follows thoughts and intentions. Thus, I allow my excess emotional charge to drain into whatever crystal I am holding. I also partner with rounded and pointed crystals to work on my acupressure points at the same time! Win-win! ❤️🌀💎

Crystal shapes best for acupressure work

Crystal Mantra

I love looking at crystals because like people’s opinions, every crystal is multifaceted.

Whenever I feel rattled, I say to myself, “I am multifaceted. No one can see ALL of my facets at any one given time. Turn, turn, turn.”

My intention is that I hope my words bring you ease, joy, and peace. OM ❤️🦋🌀🙏

Join us for Golden Alchemy

Golden Alchemy

Golden Alchemy teaches us to navigate through the challenging moments of Life by masterfully elevating our AWARENESS to a higher state of authentic Truth.

What thoughts or insecurities hinder your forward progress?

What thoughts or insecurities hinder your forward progress in life?

Where do you find yourself feeling inauthentic, vulnerable, or scared?

Where do you find yourself feeling powerless?

I invite you to join us, as my dear spiritual mentor, Alania Starhawk, guides us through a loving process of expansion and growth.

Join us for 4 weeks of inner work that starts NOW, this morning! (With replays available.)

https://alaniastarhawk.com/2020/07/21/manifesting-with-golden-alchemy/

Often or sometimes we sense that BALANCE is ALL that is needed to achieve our own HEALING but we don’t know how to ALLOW ourselves to be supported. Yet, all the while the Universe winks at us, lovingly attempting to communicate how much it has our back. ❤️😉

Alania lovingly shares,

Sometimes a true ALCHEMIST needs to GO INTO THE TRUTH that exists at deeper levels. Sometimes she has to go places she’d rather not go because she MUST FACE all that is ready to be gracefully transformed.

AUTHENTICITY (awareness and acceptance of all varying truths) is the same as “living golden”.

GOLDEN ALCHEMY reminds you that you can explore all those truths—even the messy ones—without ever compromising your personal power and potential.

YOU ALWAYS REMAIN IN CONTROL OF YOUR EXPERIENCE.

Spirit shows me, when you wish to clean out your closet, can you do it without bringing some belongings into the light?? Don’t you need to try the old coat on, to sense how much it still resonates with your energy??

With GOLDEN ALCHEMY we feel safe enough to explore our shadows so they can be touched by the light.

As real as it gets! ❤️🦋🌀🙏☀️💦🌱👣

I was scared on Thursday (of this week), during my oral surgery! If you wonder why, check out my previous post: https://beingwhollyvibrant.wordpress.com/2018/09/16/finding-the-silver-lining-after-traumatic-dental-experience/

I sat in the dental chair and focused on my rose quartz heart (that I held in my hand), and I thought:

Holding a rose quartz crystal
  • I love how the dental chair supports the weight of my body
  • How skilled and compassionate my oral surgeon is
  • How indeed the Universe supports me, etc., etc.
  • And for a brief moment, I felt my bluestone bracelet, and took a mental journey back to Stonehenge (where I had meditated sitting close to the bluestone)

And guess what?!?

I came out braver on the other side of it! Whew!

Rose quartz heart

All was well. ALL is well!

But, there had been those moments. Moments of unnecessary tension. Moments of uncertainty. Lost moments, that I could have been IN joy, prayer for others, or gratitude for ALL I have!

❤️🦋🌀

So, this is why I continue to learn. And why I am inviting YOU to join us.

We are here to grow our MANIFESTING with GOLDEN ALCHEMY—and you’re invited.

WILL YOU JOIN US???

For those who have trouble meditating

Do you have trouble meditating?

There is this one little physical thing you can do (that a massage therapist taught me years ago), when you are wanting to meditate, but feel that you can’t because your mind is racing.

I learned this one move, and have taught it to many other since, that helped me in the beginning when I couldn’t seem to meditate because my mind was always ON.

Try the following procedure and let me know if it helps.

Trouble meditating?

The procedure

Start by closing your eyes and rubbing two fingers (of each hand), up the bridge of both sides of your nose, and while maintaining the same pressure, move your fingers over and above your eye brows to make circles around yours eyes.

You can do this several times, and even go in reverse circles, lightening the pressure as you go.

As you notice your thoughts slowing down, you can stop this motion and relax your hands to your sides and then simply focus on your breathing.

The outcome

This one move really can ease the mind racing or mind chatter, especially when one begins learning meditation. Namaste. OM ❤️🦋🌀
