Mood

Yes, I had gained 20 pounds in 3 months due to being stressed and depressed—mood can trigger all kinds of hormonal changes… plus, all the self sabotaging-thoughts like, “we’re all gonna die, so I’ll eat what I want” that seem to crop up when all you hear is doom and freaking gloom crap! But, thankfully, when I got my head back on straight, I released all 20 pounds in about 4.5 months.

Now, I feel so accomplished and motivated to lose the rest of the excess weight I’ve carried on my body for over 20 years! —Read more about what I’m doing here: https://sheilamurrey.net/2020/12/20/integration-diet/

Do you read health books?

Do you read health books?

NEWS! I’ve finished writing my health book, Take It Upon Yourself to Live a Wholly Vibrant Life!

Well, actually, I published the book nearly two years ago. But, somehow I think now is the best time for it to gain massive exposure.

I painstakingly wrote, Take It Upon Yourself to Live a Wholly Vibrant Life, to open a door to the abundance of holistic health options that most either aren’t aware of, or might have one or more mental blocks about trying.

In the book, I talk about cancer, rebuilding the immune system, improving memory and mental clarity, easing pain, and more. I present information about healing asthma and allergies, breathing better, and reversing chronic diseases.

Take It Upon Yourself to Live a Wholly Vibrant Life focuses on all the options people have that their doctors may not tell them about (even if they know of them). The book provides 50+ questions you can use as a starting point to have a more thorough conversation with your doctor.
It’s about taking your power back, taking ownership and personal responsibility for your health. It’s about doing what you can naturally, using holistic health and wellness methods to live vibrantly.

I survived pharmaceuticals! My original design for t-shirts, mugs, and such, because it’s true!

Take It Upon Yourself to Live a Wholly Vibrant Life offers a thought bridge from the world of Western mainstream medicine to the varied and extensive ease and flow of the balancing Eastern healing arts. It is a gentle introduction to multiple natural paths to wholeness and mind-body wellness. Connecting us with spirit, it raises hope. With ease and grace, it soothes the soul.

If you suffer from chronic dis-ease, you may find this book offers you a path back to wholeness that can be fully embraced (by the mind, body, and spirit) and easily integrated into daily life.

My book cover: Take It Upon Yourself to Live a Wholly Vibrant Life!

Career writer speaks! Discover your most valuable words: WordPLAY

A career writer speaks: WordPLAY by Sheila Murrey, Embodiment Wordsmith

Workshop: Release the WORDS that no longer serve you; Exchange those words for uplifting, inspiring. and empowering ones that raise your consciousness and benefit ALL.

A writer speaks: Words Workshop has been evacuated and rebranded as WordPLAY and sessions are being scheduled.

Audience: Wellness business owners, small business owners, teachers, speakers, managers, and parents.

In the WordPLAY Playshop

We will:

Identify the words we USE and when we speak them with an intention and tone that carries the frequency of a “to destroy” curse, such as the words typically spoken when we’re angry, upset, or in pain;
Use an intentional and elegant process to release the WORDS that no longer serve us, such as, low frequency, negative ones.
Playfully explore how we can replace lower vibration words with higher, more purposeful words to uplift, inspire, and empower ourselves and others to raise your consciousness and benefit ALL by expanding and elevating our collective consciousness.
And we’ll mine for words that resonate higher (and reach farther into the ether) to become aware of the empowering CHOICES we have when it comes to improving our health and wealth with our powerful words. Yes, voice matters (in multitudinous ways)!
As well, we will let go of words we overuse, that are unnecessary, or those we say because we think we need to fill empty space.

About the Process

During the WordPLAY playshop, you’ll be encouraged to play with thoughts and words in this interactive workshop (where the facilitator will be using a whiteboard and 3×5 index cards).
This will be an empowering exercise in Awareness, by a writer with over 33 years of career experience and two degrees, both in science (aviation business) and the arts (visual communications).

Bonus

We will uncover brilliant SEO keywords to expand our reach in the Mind, Body, Spirit, Soul Internet space!

Send an email (Subject line: WordPLAY class) for class dates, times, and fees. Package discounts are available. Group sessions in person and online are available.

Both subtle results (new awareness) and tangible will be achieved.

Book Review: Voyages into the Unknown by Bruce Moen

Book Review: Voyages into the Unknown

Bruce Moen’s book, Voyages into the Unknown is deep and profound, with it’s assay into the bottomless mysteries of Afterlife exploration.

Sometimes while reading the word for word familiarity was uncanny with things I have experienced–other times, passages or terms were, at least initially, over my head. Yet, Bruce’s writing kept me intrigued from start to finish–though I’m not entirely finished, as there are more books in this series to eagerly inspect.

For those of us who love fiction based on true stories, enjoy deep and riveting mysteries, or simply have a passion to dig through the numerous tangles within our Connections, you’ll find this book a treasure.

Voyages into the Unknown
Book: Voyages into the Unknown

I have enjoyed the challenge and mind stretch ‘Voyages’ has brought to my ever evolving consciousness.

Consciousness, as a topic and in all of its aspects, beckons me to study further, not out of mere curiosity but to seek an answer to “where do I stop and you begin?” –and because my mother, aunt, and grandmother all suffered with Alzheimer’s dis-ease. I am a sleuth of sorts, always and in ALL ways forward-thinking to try and solve the riddle of why we’re here.

You may also like my post, Expanding Consciousness here.

Connections

I came to know Bruce’s writing through his beloved wife, Pharon. And I desired to finish her husband’s book before embarking on a Sacred Celtic Journey with my husband (a journey that Pharon, Patricia McGivern, Kim Cintio, and several more would also join).

I met Pharon on my Sedona journey, and we have stayed connected since. But, I had not gotten to know Bruce before his passing, or crossing over beyond The Veil. And I wanted to learn about him and his Afterlife exploration from having attended his memorial service, or Celebration of Life.

In order to live a wholly vibrant life, I feel we must continually expand our awareness. And when I saw several people from Bruce’s past Afterlife exploration attend his service (from as far away as Japan), I knew I must read his books. I love reading books, but reading books by those I know (or know their family member) is a real thrill!

Synchronicities

I don’t want to reveal too much, but I thought you might be interested in a few inside peeks to see what engaged me so much!

I’ll share three relevancies or synchronicities that struck a chord within me as I read, Voyages into the Unknown:

1) “Bits and pieces that ring true to your own experience…” (Bits and Pieces was the name of an establishment in my hometown of which, I can’t explain much about except it intrigued me and I looked forward to going there for years. When I was finally old enough to get in, it had closed for business.)

2) “All the events of my life seem so woven together and interconnected…”

3) A powerful explanation about reoccurring dreams and how many times we remember these dreams 30 or 40 years later!

Believe it or not – a key to healing

Bruce details in his book a question I have pondered for years. Why some people can have spontaneous healing in their bodies, yet others not–and while I agree none of us can really know how much Faith a person has, I dare say that I’ve known many who displayed great Faith (especially believing for others), yet continued to personally suffer. A key answer to this perplexing conundrum is put forth in ‘Voyages’–and it relates to how each must believe within our own frame of reference for the body to accept the healing!!!

Fascinating topics

If you are fascinated by any of the following, I believe (no, I FEEL), that you’ll love Voyages into the Unknown:

  • Afterlife exploration
  • Astrology
  • Hypnosis
  • Numerology
  • Paranormal experiences
  • Past lives
  • Quantum entanglement
  • Reincarnation

I wish for all of my readers to have fantastical synchronicities and experiences also!

Be open to receive.

Many blessings to you in ALL ways.

Amen and Namaste. OM

I don’t know. And it’s okay!

I don’t know.

And I don’t know is a valid answer to any question when you really do not know. Not that you’re fluffing off the question, or not because you’re too busy, or your brain is too full to pay attention to the question, but because you actually have not weighed all of the available information or sourced for more, to arrive at an answer.

My husband has often commented that my dad will end a conversation with the words, “I don’t know.” And I’ve told my husband that over the years, my mom drove me nuts because during almost every conversation at some point she’d mention, “Do you know? I don’t know.” But now, mom’s gone. And of course, I’m finding there’s much that I don’t know!

But now, I think it’s okay not to know!

You see, just because I don’t know everything, doesn’t mean that I don’t live IN joy! I choose JOY in every moment. I see synchronicities in many things and relish in the glorious luscious moments, while minimizing the painful ones. Seeking balance, there is no void in me.

Therefore, I am fine not knowing exactly what comes next. I have many ideas about what comes next, but no one knows for sure, even those who’ve died and been resuscitated! And near death, well, as many of those stories as I’ve heard, though similar, they’re not all the same. Oh, I believe those persons, and the stories they recount–mostly because the stories remain unchanged for each one, though I’ve heard their stories multiple times (and I think it would be impossible to tell a lie the same way time after time).

But mostly, I’m writing this because I don’t know if you are supposed to help me change or if I’m supposed to help you. I do know we are all in this together, and that we are ALL God’s children.

Some of the most well-meaning people lately (even family) have tried to introduce, or re-introduce me to Jesus Christ, to “save me.” And I’m fine with their loving attempts, because, well, they love me! I understand their intention. I really do! And I love them for wanting to “see me again in heaven”, or wherever wonderful saved people go after death.

I prefer to believe at this moment in my life, that we all go into a Beyond. And it’s completely inexplicably beautiful! Beyond anything we can IMAGINE!

But, if your thoughts of salvation are based on your worry about whether you’ll see me at some later time in heaven, think about the JOY we might be missing RIGHT NOW, while we’re talking and connecting on a very real, visceral level. Let’s not focus so much on seeing each other again in a hereafter that no one’s seen, and miss out on the amazing and REAL life we’re currently experiencing!

I also invite you to ponder if your worry is not based upon your own ego, fear of death or the unknown.

As you can see, I’ve given this topic just a bit of thought.

A guru once told me, “If you’re unsure of anything, or troubled by any particular thought, just sit with it for awhile.” So, on this particular topic I have sat with it for some time. And here’s what I’ve been given:

If you feel I am not saved, ask yourself the following questions:

  • Is your every thought a prayer?
  • Is your every moment alone spent in meditation listening for God’s word?
  • Is your every bath, shower, or swim–a baptism?
  • Is your every bite or drink of food taken in remembrance of your Creator?

Until you can do these things and your life bears the fruit of your pure intentions, please do not judge me or any other human BEings in your life.

If you are worried about anything, you are not living in Faith. And for sure I don’t think you’re living your faith, because Jesus said we’d all be known by our fruits (what we produce with our lives).

Moment to moment people change. Even the ones who you might feel have hurt you or someone you love dearly. Send them loving thoughts without trying to change them.

That is all.

And I promise to do the same.

But, I don’t know. Do you?

Take it upon yourself to be healthy, joyful, wholly vibrant, and beautiful.

Many teachers can show you, yet your vitality and vibrant life depends on what you practice daily

If you’ve been reading my blog for any length of time, you’ve come to know that there are many teachers, and many ways of living, that can help you prevent dis-ease and assist you in living a long and vibrant life.

Let’s look at those teachers again. And the practices that go well beyond food.

We all know people who can live to be almost any age, by eating white cake everyday, which as much as that exasperates me, also proves that all the cells of your body are LISTENING to you, your beliefs, your words, and the environment you place them in.

We don’t know if people are happy, think positive and hopeful thoughts, or not, but we can see the effects of their thoughts, happy people who laugh and joke, but eat the worst diets, smoke, drink alcohol, and so on–yet seemingly live fairly well.

Then there are those who fall over with a heart attack while jogging. Maybe they were sad, angry, resentful, or suffering from an aching heart.

Sometimes, it just makes no sense. And there seems to be no rhyme or reason to why some people live long lives and others die young.

There are many different schools of thought about a variety of subjects. And who gets to be the one authority on any one topic anyway?

So, this list includes everyone in my circle who promote exercise, healthy eating habits, and mindful practices (yes, some religious / spiritual, though I realize people who claim to be atheists, can also live long and healthy lives).

Who do you follow? What are your daily practices? Do they make you FEEL good when you do them? If so, I think you’re probably on a pretty good path for yourself. I am not here to judge.

I heard it said that the best exercise is the one you’ll DO! And that has proven to be true in my experience. I love the benefits of walking, Qigong, Pilates, Yamuna, yoga, deep breathing, and singing, so I continue to practice these.

I am here, as my mother was for me (in my younger years), to give you the benefit of helpful people and things that I’ve found. But my way does not have to be your way.

If you saw what I eat on a daily basis, you’d think I’d be thin, or at the very least of a “normal” weight, but I struggle with the extra 60-80 pounds I put on during a traumatic time of my life.

I lose 20-30 pounds for awhile, then slowly put it back on. I’ve paid thousands of dollars for diet books, classes, enzyme supplements, colonics, cleansing teas, doctor sponsored diet plans, and on and on, but I have not yet (I have hope) found one that really, truly, works for me. I even use EFT, Jin Shin Jyutsu, prayer, acupuncture, acupressure, reflexology, meditation, and so on also, to release the mental struggle in order to try to return to my pre-age 35 weight. But alas, I continue to seek to find a way back to my whole and healthy weight. I’ve even “let go” of the “trying to’s” and that seems to allow more weight to creep back on!

Here’s an example of one of my lunches (that I eat most weekdays, as most weekends I skip lunch in favor of a Greek egg omelet):

  • 4 Romaine lettuce leaves
  • Big slice of raw onion
  • 1/2 raw squash (or zucchini)
  • 2 or 3 slices of roasted turkey breast (optional)

Sheila Raw Salad lunch.JPG

Dressing:

  • 1 T Garlic
  • 1/2 t garlic powder
  • 1/4 t cajun or creole seasoning
  • Walnut and Olive oil
  • Dash of sea salt to taste

So, I am just a regular gal, hoping to connect you with some things, or people, who will assist you to be the person you want to be. I am a Connector. Don’t look to me to be perfect. True art only finds and honors the imperfection anyway. If life were perfect and everyone was the same, it would be boring. Embrace the drama–just a little bit, and use it to make better, consistently joyous choices. That’s about as good as it gets.

Much love, and many blessings to you in ALL ways,

Take it upon yourself to be healthy, joyful, wholly vibrant, and beautiful.

Are you scared of Acupuncture?

It never fails to amaze me just how many people will say no to having acupuncture. Is it because many are scared of acupuncture?

While visiting Awakening Wellness Center in St Petersburg, Florida, I met a lady who was in extreme back pain and for some reason, said no to the offer of a low-cost acupuncture session. (She did get a massage and Reiki).

It made me wonder, “Why are people scared of receiving an acupuncture treatment?”

Could it be the needles? The needles used in acupuncture are the size of a human hair. If you’ve ever had a tattoo or any vaccine, that hurts so much worse! Acupuncture doesn’t hurt. You might feel a twinge or electrical kind of feeling though, but nothing like sticking your finger in an electrical outlet. Just enough for you to know something is actually working–and alive inside of you.

Could it be they don’t take this healing modality seriously? Because it is well documented in scientific communities to work–even students in medical school see one movie in their curriculum about acupuncture (having to do with acupuncture being used on a patient undergoing surgery instead of anesthesiology)!

Or could the fear be related to their beliefs? If so, I have a lot to share with you my friend–about “limiting beliefs”!

Allow me to encourage you to give acupuncture a try and challenge your beliefs about it, especially if you are in pain or dealing with a chronic dis-ease.

Acupuncture put me on a path back to wellness and relieved asthma (which I had experienced for more than thirty years) within a six month period, and also relieved the extreme pain I’d experience a few years ago from an ovarian cyst.

Every body is different. So, I can’t say, nor can anyone really, how much acupuncture can help you. But if you can’t even bring yourself to try it, you’ll certainly never know!

My first acupuncture (doctor of Oriental Medicine) was able to help me quit five (5) pharmaceutical drugs (many of which, I had taken for years!) back in 2005. Sadly for me, she moved away–but then so did we. She had been an oncology nurse for twenty-six (26) years and went back to school, and spent $50k to become a doctor of OM because she was seeing teenage girls come in for oncology treatments for breast cancer!!! She knew in her gut, intuition, or spirit, that this was just plain WRONG! (If you want to know more about my first acupuncture doctor–connect with me on LinkedIn and read my glowing review for Joan Massey.)

As for me, yes, I changed my diet. I quit dairy products. And I started taking garlic capsules and using frankincense essential oil (Young Living brand). I restarted a yoga practice–which I had practiced as a teenager–for it’s breathing and additional health benefits. I also began documenting everything I did in hopes of writing a book about my experience.

At one point, during my exit from pharmaceutical meds I got the flu, or what felt like the flu to me. When I couldn’t stop coughing, and was urinating blood, my husband took me to the emergency room. After tests were run, I was told that I didn’t have the flu–and that you can’t get the flu in the summer (which is an outright lie), but that I did have a urinary tract infection. I’d had those before, but never with the kinds of symptoms I was experiencing.

Looking back, I wonder if I was detoxing from the medications. It was the most horrific illness I had ever experience in my life–and I was out of work for 7 whole days–more than I had ever missed in my entire twenty year full-time technology career.

All this to say, I remember telling my husband at the time–while laying in bed feeling as if I would die–I don’t care who I have to see, a shaman, priest, tribal medicine man/woman, or a witch doctor, but God, help me!

And all of these years later, if I felt that bad again, I would do the same thing.

To our feeling great, better health, and longevity,

Sheila Murrey

Meet yogi and visionary humanitarian Sadhguru… Sunday Sept 25th, 2016 in Sarasota, Florida

Oh, this is sooo exciting!!! What a humble honor it is for me to share with you… Sadhguru will be visiting Sarasota Florida on Sunday, Sept 25, 2016!

As I sit writing this, I wonder what my focused experience of meeting Sadhguru will be like. Will it be similar to what my dear friend and angel Alania experienced and wrote about (here) last year? Will he say the same thing? Or like us, does Sadhguru continue to change and grow in the field of pure positive potentiality? Ahh…

Well, my dear lovely friends, I offer you an opportunity to find out.

Click here to go to the official website where you can find out all of the event particulars and buy your ticket to reserve your seat (there are multiple pricing levels, even a discounted student rate). Note: The minimum age limit to attend is 7 years.

I will be there. And I believe I will be in a state of awe. Not just of Sadhguru as a man, mystic, or master, but of the shared vibratory resonance that will occur in one place, when many finely tuned human instruments will join together to play a delightful symphony of BE-ing.

I have been watching Sadhguru on YouTube, since being introduced to Pranayama breathing only recently. Literally, within days of my beginning to practice my newly learned breathing techniques, I found myself at a film screening (I’d been invited with only two days notice, and I just simply knew that I must attend) whereby I was given the most thrilling news that Sadhguru would be visiting locally–SOON!

Well, if you know me, you will most definitely understand when I say, I jumped at the opportunity to, not only reserve my seat to attend, but also to serve by offering to write this blog article FAST and help get the news out about his upcoming visit!

Again, here is the link to all of the information about this extraordinary event. See you there!

We Are All Connected.

Amen. Namaste. OM

From the official Press Release (shared with permission):

Inner Engineering: A Yogi’s Guide to Joy helps one to master the most sophisticated machine on the planet — the human being. During his North American Fall Tour, world renowned yogi and visionary humanitarian, Sadhguru, will introduce the new book, which will be released September 20th. Sadhguru will be touring 17 cities during his North American Fall Tour with an event planned in Sarasota on September 25th at the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall.

For the first time, Sadhguru will present Western readers with a path to achieving absolute well-being through the classical science of yoga in a practical, accessible book. The wisdom distilled in this transformative book offers readers time-tested tools for creating inner situations exactly the way you want them, turning you into the architect of your own joy.

Sadhguru presents a philosophical and practical introduction to the power and profundity of yoga – as he puts it, “not as acrobatics or metaphysics, but as an empirical science that makes you the master of your own destiny…(this book) is an invitation to each one of you to turn from an armchair reader into a dynamic participant on an ecstatic journey inward.”

A yogi lives life in this expansive state and in this transformative book Sadhguru shares the story of his own awakening, from a boy to a young daredevil, to the moment of his enlightenment on a mountaintop in India, where time stood still, and he emerged radically changed.

“My aim in this book is to help make joy your constant companion. To make that happen, this book offers you not a sermon, but a science; not a teaching, but a technology; not a precept, but a path,” explains Sadhguru in the book’s forward.

Today, as the founder of Isha Foundation, a worldwide nonprofit organization, and classical yoga retreat centers in both the East and West, he lights the path for millions like you. Isha’s international retreat center based in the western world is the Isha Institute of Inner-sciences situated in Tennessee’s own spectacular Upper Cumberland just one hour northwest of Chattanooga, TN.

Just following the book release will be Isha’s popular, annual World Peace Day celebration September 24th, hosted at the Tennessee center. The World Peace Day celebration is an annual daylong event in honor of the United Nations International Day of Peace. World Peace Day is dedicated to cultivating peaceful possibilities within ourselves and our world through creative expression, celebration, yoga and meditation in the idyllic natural setting of the Foundation’s breathtaking Upper Cumberland retreat center.

Sadhguru is known around the world for large-scale humanitarian, educational, and environmental projects carried out by Isha Foundation, which he founded in 1992.   Supported by over three million volunteers worldwide, the objective of all the Foundation’s activities is to empower the individual to realize the ultimate potential within, and to promote a global climate of inclusiveness and harmony. Sadhguru has been an honored guest and speaker at distinguished forums and institutions including the United Nations, The World Economic Forum, Harvard, Wharton, Microsoft, TED, Google, and more.

Inner Engineering is a fascinating read of Sadhguru’s insights and his teaching. If you are ready, it is a tool to help awaken your own inner intelligence, the ultimate and supreme genius that mirrors the wisdom of the cosmos.” – Deepak Chopra

“I am inspired by Sadhguru’s capacity for joy, his exuberance for life, and the depth and breadth of his curiosity and knowledge. His book is filled with moments of wonder, awe, and intellectual challenge. I highly recommend it for anyone interested in self-transformation.” —Mark Hyman, MD, Director, Cleveland Clinic Center for Functional Medicine, and New York Times bestselling author

Even scientists and doctors disagree – how to find a good remedy

When scientists and doctors disagree, how DO you find a good remedy for your health issue? Most pharmaceutical prescription drugs only mask symptoms – they do not heal or cure. And what about natural remedies?

In my opinion, the number one way to know you’ve found a good natural health remedy is: it resolved your issue. You found relief. If you had a headache and you tried something that relieved your headache, you’re satisfied. Yet, what about all the other remedies you may have spent an arm and a leg on that didn’t work? If you’re reading this, you’ve probably bought a dozen over-the-counter (OTC) or natural remedies that didn’t do much for you (though you may not be willing to admit it).

I am not a doctor or licensed health practitioner, but I am an analyst and I spend a lot of time researching and trying out many natural health and wellness products. Being such a savvy gal in this regard, I can share some of the natural health remedies that have worked for me, and some of them may help you too!

7 ways to know you’ve found the right natural / holistic health remedy

#1- It worked. Admittedly, just because the natural remedy worked for you once, it may not always, or may not work for you in every instance. Also, that same remedy may not work for everyone else.

If you’re like me, you’ve raced out to tell all your friends and family of your delightful natural remedy discovery, only to find a less than enthusiastic response to your new found awareness. Most want want to hear about it, much less try it. Of those who love and trust you enough to try it – far less will experience the same astounding relief as you. Yet, it’s beneficial for you to keep a list of the things that worked for you. If and when others notice your results, they’ll get curious (perhaps) and ask you what  you are doing.

#2 – It’s been a successful remedy for centuries. This is certainly a good reason to try something, but until it has proven itself by actually resolving your problem, I don’t think it’s the best reason to rely on a particular remedy. Granted, before anything can work for you – you have to open your mind to try it and then, actually use it.

Just because a natural remedy hasn’t been used in your family, or even in your country, if it’s worked for millions of people, or been used for centuries, it’s probably worth checking into. Favorites are: Prayer (asking), Meditation (listening), exercising your Faith (Read the book, Biology of Belief for the science about how your very beliefs change cells), Acupuncture, Medical QiGong, Jin Shin Jyutsu (JSJ), Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), therapeutic essential oils (food grade quality only such as Young Living or DoTerra brands), consuming whole fresh (or cultured) food as medicine, moving your body–even gently to get your lymph moving, and deep breathing (such as the Yogic breathing called, Pranayama).

Did you know that you can burn Bay leaves (like sage) to use its smoke to clear the allergic response?

#3 – It’s made from common natural ingredients. This doesn’t always mean the remedy will be inexpensive, but if you read the ingredients and you can pronounce each one, you’ve at least narrowed down the list of potential side affects (granted some people are allergic to natural ingredients you can pronounce).

One of the best natural remedies I rely on for reducing sinus congestion is garlic capsules (a little tip from a registered nutritionist). Another I like, is a natural remedy for colds / flu, it’s a mixture of apple cider vinegar, garlic, onions, cayenne, horseradish, and ginger. I’ve tried a few different formulations of this concoction and it works every time. Or, I take a few drops of Young Living Thieves blend of therapeutic essential oil on my tongue and drink some water after a few seconds, or use one drop of P73 Oreganol on my tongue–depending on which oil I have handy.

If those remedies seem too strong for you, try some warm tea and one or two of any of the following: onions, garlic, apples, oranges, turmeric, black pepper, sea salt, ginger, and/or Bragg’s Apple Cider vinegar with the Mother to your diet (one, some, or all – probably not all at the same time) while your experiencing the cold/flu and see if you don’t find some relief. I’ve tried colloidal silver – pretty good stuff, but I cannot say it works on everything every time.

I love the Moringa tree leaf for natural energy and clarity, however, I am allergic to it (and I’ve even experimented with taking a small dose, or every other day)! So, some of these things just must be tried, one at a time, in order to know if they are helpful for YOU. Currently, I am taking Magnolia Extract with Honokiol. Honokiol is being researched in conjunction with Alzheimer’s prevention — A 2012 study showed that Honokiol reduces inflammation in brain tissue and another study indicated that it may reduce neuronal (brain) cell death, a factor of Alzheimer’s disease. As a preventive, I am personally trying hemp CBD oil now.

#4 – It’s been handed down through your family (or your friend’s family) for generations. I know by this time we’re really dealing with “word of mouth” and no one in your family kept a list of who all used the remedy, for how long, and what outcome they experienced. But eh, if it’s a simple remedy and one you can wrap your mind around – why not give it a try? I once had a friend help me easily get rid of a ganglion cyst on my wrist and I am quite sure that saved me a lot of hassle as well as, hundreds of dollars. As well, I didn’t have to take any drugs for it, endure x-rays, or surgery. I was a bit skeptical at first but she swore by the remedy and it was free! I used her procedure myself in the privacy of my own home and it worked! I really love those kinds of natural remedies. My grandmother (of Native American Cherokee Indian ancestry) could take the fire out of burns with a feather light touch to the area along with an intention and prayer (a form of Energy medicine) which, was handed down generation to generation male to female, then female to male. During my youth I experienced her healing touch several times–burns on my skin always healed quickly without a blister or scar.

#5 – it’s been recommended by my alternative, integrative or complimentary doctor, nutritionist, massage therapist, acupuncturist, chiropractor, or other holistic health licensed professional. I’m sure it depends upon how much pain you’re in, or how close to death you feel, but I’ve let it be known for awhile that I’d go to a witch doctor (okay, I think the more appropriate term Shaman) if I thought they could aid my body to heal itself. I believe God always wants what is best for us and will provide us a way, even if to some that “way” seems wacky. We’re meant to live a long, healthy, and abundant life! For those of you who believe, “I’ll only try it if SCIENCE has proven it to work” odds are, you’ll suffer (and die) before science figures everything out! If something works for me – that’s MY science. Case in point, there’s no “flu season”, that’s a marketing ploy from the pharmaceutical companies! I’ve gone out in the cold with wet hair daily for years, and never “caught” a cold or flu! (My mother bought into that myth, but I’ve proven it false). And it’s also been stated that one third of all people healed via traditional medical treatments are due to the placebo effect! (Read Dr. Bruce Lipton’s book, The Biology of Belief.)

I’m an observer too. And I am more than capable to log and track (uh, I’m a writer!) what works for me. I don’t care if it’s anecdotal experience. We are all anecdotes. Each of us are unique!

I’m asthma free because I never gave up until I found a combination of natural remedies that allowed my body to naturally heal from that issue. Oh, and actually I didn’t have to go to a witch doctor. Science changes – and it changes every day. Science is about experimenting, observing, testing, documenting the results, and using the same method, replicating the experiments in order to quantify and validate the results… and yet, many scientists and doctors argue and disagree!! That’s why you can’t just buy the latest book of scientific evidence on any topic. There will always be one group that says it’s quackery and one group that claims their “revelation” (what they are going to reveal) is God’s gift to humanity. Ugh. Everyone has to make money, but no one has to suffer!

#6 – It’s been recommended by my doctor. My husband’s doctor once made a quiet remark of a recommendation to my husband (I was in the room) whereby he stated that my husband “could eat a better balanced diet, OR take a few pills” while explaining that most people just “prefer pharmaceutical drugs” for their ailments. I listened respectfully, thought it really pissed me off. If the doctor would have given my husband a food diary, book on nutrition, maybe a cookbook, or calorie chart of some sort, then I might have believed his feeble attempt to change my hubby’s eating habits. Doctors only get one class on nutrition in all of their years of medical school, why? I have an idea, but you might not want to hear it! (Shhh… follow the money).

#7 – It’s been touted as effective by Prevention magazine, Dr. Oz, Hippocrates Health Institute (HHI), Natural News websites / shows, Dr. Colin Campbell, Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn, Dr. Joel Fuhrman, Dr. David Perlmutter, Dr. Joseph Mercola, Dr. Gabriel Cousens, etc. I don’t always agree with every article I read from these authors, doctors, or publications, however these experts are scary smart! They experiment, observe, test, and track results from thousands of patients and their outcomes in a systematic way. I often try their advice because I am the brave and adventurous type. However, I don’t take just one of their opinions, studies, or books, as the end all be all. I am also careful when someone says to, “trust me”, because I only really trust my body. If one of these doctors or scientists had all the answers, they wouldn’t disagree with each other! Remember, studies can be interpreted in multiple ways!

For me, I’ve just had too many different experiences from everything I have tried, to believe the one size fits all approach. Nonsense! I’ve tried the low-fat diet and I experienced brain fog, so much so in fact, that it impacted by logical analytical thinking (my job) — and because I’m in a technical industry, I must have a highly functioning brain!

There are many ways to naturally increase beauty – even small changes can have a big impact for your health and well being.

Finding natural health and beauty doctors – Tampa and St Petersburg Florida

Originally published for Examiner(dot)com

December 20th, 2015

Moved again. (Sigh!) But you gotta go where the work is. So, here I am again writing another article about how to find natural alternative and holistic health and wellness professionals.

Whenever my husband or I have a health issue I want my wellness team lined up and at the ready so we can take care of it early. As I’ve said before, the sooner you seek “well care” when you feel something is off in your body, the quicker an alternative therapy is apt to work.

Thought process

Let me start by giving you my thought process. Even if you have a lot of other priorities for instance, sports, extracurricular activities, etc., still you need to complete a senior project to graduate successfully. I began searching for those who would comprise my wellness team on Google before we moved. Then I went to the Natural Awakenings magazine for the Tampa / St. Pete area. They’re always a solid research tool.

Getting out in the Community

One of the first places I found (while driving around town), was the community acupuncture clinic! They will be first on my list to call if I feel I need care.

I’m excited to find them because my first acupuncture doctor moved to South Carolina a few years ago and started a community clinic there – so I am familiar with this type of business model and believe it will help more people (because they charge a reduced, sliding scale fee for services). Also, the community acupuncture clinic has more than one acupuncture doctor. That should mean, less waiting, and more opportunity to meet the one who’s just right for you.

Websites

While researching one of the acupuncture physician’s website it occurred to me I should check the Florida State Oriental Medical Association web page and see who all they have listed in St. Petersburg!

As my readers know, I prefer alternative health / natural health experts such as: a naturopath and acupuncturist, instead of western practitioners. Of course, you can also adjunct your regular medical health regimen with many natural health modalities like, yoga, massage, and essential oils.

In my experience, western / allopathic medical doctors spend much of their time in school being indoctrinated about pharmaceuticals. Most have only taken one course in nutrition! So, the natural health and holistic health avenues, just make more sense to me. And the natural health and holistic health services I am sold on have been around thousands of years – to me even if they take longer, I prefer them to a pill which only masks symptoms and may cause something far worse than your original problem!

I say this because I was surprised to find a clinic where MDs are offering a new approach, working together with chiropractors, acupuncturists, and much more to offer a substantial variety of treatments that treats the cause – what a concept! I would love to hear from anyone who has went to the Millennium Health & Wellness – please email me.

As I am writing this, the Body Mind & Spirit Expo is going on at the Sheraton Tampa Airport Westshore.

Mindset

But it is what it is, and people will only believe what they want to believe. That’s why in most reviews for the Body Mind & Spirit Expo they say to come and allow your mind to open / expand. My mind is already wide open because I believe God works in powerful and mysterious ways. I also believe God is limitless possibility, so I put my judgements aside and try things out – I figure it’s a lot safer to try food and natural cures, than trust any medication that has a side effect list as long as my arm! LOL

Stores

I started looking for a couple of really good health food stores. Found one! Sunshine Health Foods on Seminole Blvd. I visited the store and talked with owner/manager, Sue, for about an hour.

The Sunshine Health Foods store is well organized and includes a comfortable sitting area if you would like to peruse the many health and wellness related books they have, and learn (like I’ve been doing) about how to take care of yourself naturally.

Sue was kind enough to lead me to a massage therapist (next door) and an acupuncture clinic just up the road. I also picked up more holistic health type local magazines.

I love all kinds of health food / organic markets – they don’t have to be huge, or carry “everything” which, is why I like to find at least two. As for a “doctor,” I want a naturopath or acupuncture physician who truly listens to me about any and all issues I have going on then, using investigative tools, plans the necessary treatment and works to guide me in staying the course.

I am your local wellness activist and EFT practitioner ready to provide you a list of alternative, holistic, or complimentary medicine doctors located in St. Petersburg / Tampa Florida. I’ve linked each to their own websites so you can get more information about them or contact their office.
