Mood

Yes, I had gained 20 pounds in 3 months due to being stressed and depressed—mood can trigger all kinds of hormonal changes… plus, all the self sabotaging-thoughts like, “we’re all gonna die, so I’ll eat what I want” that seem to crop up when all you hear is doom and freaking gloom crap! But, thankfully, when I got my head back on straight, I released all 20 pounds in about 4.5 months.

Now, I feel so accomplished and motivated to lose the rest of the excess weight I’ve carried on my body for over 20 years! —Read more about what I’m doing here: https://sheilamurrey.net/2020/12/20/integration-diet/

2020: Review of a Challenging, Adjusting, and Healing Year

2020 Year in Review: Challenging, Adjusting, and Healing

I was sooo very fortunate to go on a Yoga cruise (facilitated by Cindy Bartz of Tampa, Florida) in January, just after my birthday. Yep. A self-care gift to ME!

Two of my girlfriends went with me and we had a blast! One brought another friend, so the four of us could pal around. It was aWEsOMe! Little did I know then how much I was going to need Yoga, breathwork, and every tip I picked up there during the days, weeks, and months to come.

In Cozumel Mexico Jan 2020

2020 has been an emotionally turbulent year for me. Physically, we moved from Merritt Island, Florida on Feb. 29th, and then, days later, the emotional rollercoaster of the COVID-19 virus began (with all of its associated fear mongering, misinformation, disinformation, judgmental attitudes, lockdowns, etc. And we don’t even watch the news!), but I hear enough from my own circles of influence.

We had all kinds of plans for 2020. But most got canceled or postponed, and we couldn’t even explore our new area either. And that all set me up for depression, weight gain (and thankfully now, weight loss), along with some extremely tense and emotional days (as we fumbled with adjusting to off grid living).

Minding My Energy became like a cosmic joke—played on ME! (This is a t-shirt design I made in 2019, way before I knew I would have to literally manage our energy when we moved “off grid”!

In hindsight, we shouldn’t have tackled moving off the grid this year, but we really had NO IDEA how cRaZy challenging it would be, or that something called COVID would occur.

My son on the roof of our 5th wheel to cut tree branches so “we’d fit” into our RV off grid spot.

On the other hand, we’re now, considered “preppers,” and fairly self-contained (and ready) to handle whatever comes our way! Haha!

Awakening

I did manage to make it to emcee the Awakening Into the Sun outdoor yoga and music festival the first weekend in March (it’s an annual event). But even that weekend presented issues for me.

Crystal Bay hotel in St. Pete (where we usually stay), was booked solid, so I chose a different hotel near the park and I could walk to the event. That turned out to be the wrong choice for me, because between the downtown traffic, and the fact that it got cold that night and the window wouldn’t close in the hotel room bathroom, I was cold and couldn’t sleep. And though I complained to the front desk, no one came to fix the window.

I love doing emcee work, and the festival was aWEsOMe, but only two of my friends showed up, and there seemed a somber tone hanging over the crowd. We were at a new park this year, much larger, so I remember thinking that was all it was, but just 3 days later we would all become acutely aware of what was going on.

Awakening is such a good word to use to describe all of the challenges I was to experience this year as I managed my own Energy (in myriad ways), and dove into my shadow to shake up the things within me that needed clearing, healing, and balancing.

And while I’m getting there (working my own Integrated Spiral program), I am not as fine tuned as I desire—yet. Maybe I never will be, but that is my work and mission for the rest of my life.

Canceled travel plans

This year, what with all the Stay Home orders, and our secluded living arrangement (though we are camping on the same property as my son), the announcement about COVID, the closing of restaurants and shops, and cancellation of our travel plans, took a toll on my psyche.

My son shaved my head about a month into our living here. No way could I deal with wearing a mask (and not have the rubber bands from in tangle in all my naturally curly hair)! Plus, I felt like I wanted to hang in solidarity with two friends who had lost their hair due to chemo treatments to treat cancer. A show of gratitude and support for them.

Shaving my head also gave me one less thing to think about, as my workload doubled through the summer months too, which didn’t help my stress levels.

List of plans that were canceled or postponed:

  • Alania’s Gainesville retreat (prepaid)
  • SoulTreat (prepaid / postponed to Oct 2021)
  • Rock Your Gift (ticket had been included in price of coaching package – cancelled)
  • 40th High School reunion
  • Trip to my home state to lay my parent’s remains to rest (which was to occur the week I went home for my HS reunion).
2020: Challenging, Adjusting, and Healing

Family comes to Florida

We were lucky to get to see my husband’s sister and her husband this year! So many people decided not to travel. And many campgrounds closed for awhile, which made those who thought about traveling wary (and weary)!

They booked their camping trip within a 30-45 minute drive from our place, and finding it wasn’t easy, but we made it there, and enjoyed our visit immensely. They also camped at another campground outside of St. Augustine, and we drove over there too for an early evening and dinner. That was a lovely park (and much easier to find than the first one had been. Dang GPS that only lead to a back entrance, which was gated and locked with no attendant).

As well, my husband’s twin brothers decided to drive down to see us for a few days this summer, so that was nice too! And though we couldn’t find much to do (one of the botanical gardens we visited had most of their trails closed), at least we got to sit and visit, eat a few meals together, and watch Animusic on DVD in our RV.

Visiting friends in Florida

When professional offices reopened, we took a road trip to Merritt Island, so I could have oral surgery on one of my front teeth (which I had put off for more than a year—more about that here).

We were so starved for social interaction (and missed good friends there), that even with my gums bleeding, we gathered with several friends for two nights out at our old favorite hangout.

Later in the year, in December, we took a short road trip to attend one of my best friends Christmas party. I really needed the emotional reassurance by then. But that was it, as far as travel was concerned for us this year.

Making new friends

I was almost remiss in mentioning that we made new friends this year—our neighbors Aaron and Abby! And as well, my son’s girlfriend—who hung out with us most weekends! Rachael really kept me sane, I think!

And we often hung out by a bonfire on weekend evenings, which helped us let go of the stress from the work week. ❤️😉

🔥 Bonfire 🔥

Sacred Celtic Journey

We are sure glad we went to Ireland, England, and Scotland last year! I doubt we’ll be flying anywhere ever again from all the restrictions that may be put in place. For more about our incredible 2019 trip, read all 3 parts, beginning here.

I am also so thankful when I look back on my winning an ENTRY into the neolithic burial tomb Newgrange chamber for the 2019 Winter Solstice sunrise on Dec 18th!!! Because no one was allowed in the tomb this Winter Solstice! That means, I was one of 60 people (picked from 30,861 applications) to be IN that incredible chamber for the last Winter Solstice (hopefully it will reopen to guests soon).

Here’s to a better 2021!
My Newgrange triple spiral pendant from Ireland, hanging on my mom’s gold chain with my butterfly 🦋 from my bestie since grade school, Doris.

I joked with a friend recently, that if I didn’t know better, I would think I brought COVID back to the USA from Ireland because I had a cRaZy flu days after returning from Ireland last year!

Looking back, I feel the Winter Solstice that didn’t shine sunbeams into the chamber was meant to warn me of the tumultuous year ahead. And that I would be working on my shadow self this year—and I have. ☯️

Seeing my girls

One of the outings I missed the most this year, was my annual trip to see my daughter and granddaughters in New Hampshire. I love them sooo much! And I miss hugging them, taking the oldest to painting sessions, playing games and dolls, and simply smelling their hair (it’s a mommy and grandma thing, I bet)!

Due to COVID, my daughter and I made the mutual decision it would be best for us not to travel and visit. (Mostly due to her wanting to protect me, since I have had a history of asthma—cleared since 2005, and to safeguard my husband, who’s over age 65). But, PROTECT is still a word I meditate on, because I don’t believe one can protect themselves or anyone from everything. Not really. I mean, Life is terminal. If we aren’t living it, what’s it for anyway? ❤️🦋🌀

Thankfully, I get to video chat with my granddaughters often (the eldest one—almost daily), though not getting together with them this year has greatly impacted me emotionally.

Online classes

Because we’ve been staying home, I’ve had more time to participate in online groups and programs. I’ll share a few next:

I participated in a couple short programs offered on Facebook by Alania Starhawk, Janine McJannet, Robin Quinn Keehn, Cheryl Chaffee, Patti Stevens, and Michelle Howe. I’ve linked to their site or programs, so you can get more information as desired. I highly recommend all of these ladies and the work and gifts they share.

I am currently participating in VShred and Activ5 exercise routines. I have been sooo impressed about both of these programs, in particular because of their associated smartphone apps. Read more about that here.

I completed my one year business coaching program that I had bought into last December for my husband and I to figure out how we could work together to showcase his original music, travel, and combine his genius talent, experience, and education with mine. We setup MurreyMakers.com and I include his soft guitar playing within my Integrated Spiral self-coaching, small group transformational program too.

Since I gained weight during the COVID lockdowns, I was offered a really effective diet program through my health insurance. It’s called Omada, and it’s helped me walk more, eat less, improve my mindset and do better with intermittent fasting too! No more counting calories!

Experimenting to find what works

From sitting and gaining weight (going down the rabbit hole, emotional spiral, and my own shadow), I discovered (or uncovered) methods that helped me beat nighttime snacking (hint: essential oils, homemade tinctures and tonics, Activ5, doing my nails and applying Color Street polish, as well as working on creative hobbies); begin and maintain a daily habit of walking outside; and improve my mindset (Everything Resolves to Gratitude).

Winning!

Mid year, I began to think my winning streak was over, but then I won again! It may not sound like much, but I won a $50 gift certificate from author JJ Virgin and stocked up on healthy foods from her website: https://jjvirgin.com

Then, I participated in my Robin’s weeklong Facebook challenge, The CLEPTO Code™ Challenge (her group is called, Overdoers Anonymous), to pick up some new strategies on how to not overcommit.

And get this! The grand prize winner of that challenge, Miles Eddy, gifted me with part of his prize! A $100 gift card! What a complete surprise! We all got so much out of her challenge (aside from the prizes), and I know it’s going to give each of us a boost of confidence to grow and shine in 2021!

You can be a winner too!

Comment on this post to receive a complimentary gift from me to participate in my new transformational self-coaching program!

This small group program helps one find emotional balance and help foster better relationships via improving communication skills. Read more about it here.

I put this new program together to help others find balance because I’m an empath. But, here’s the thing. I thought, until very recently, that I had to fix or save others in order to ease the pain I felt. Not true. I have to process, clear, and lighten my feelings first! Ha!
❤️🦋🌀🎼☯️🙏☮️

First come, first serve. Normally $181 for 4 weeks of small group work (to include individual messages and group calls on Zoom).

2019: Review of a deeply heartfelt, well traveled, and winning year

2019 Year in Review: Heartfelt, Well traveled, and Winning

2019 was a deeply heartfelt year that created a lot of unexpected opportunities to travel, through loss and gain.

My husband and I drove across the state of Florida for me to emcee the Awakening Into the Sun outdoor yoga and music festival the first weekend in March (it’s an annual event). And this year we were so delighted to have my husband‘s sister and her husband join us! We all stayed at the Crystal Bay hotel in St. Pete and enjoyed a fun time at Caddy’s on the beach with friends too!

Heartfelt travel

Then deep sadness hit me only a few days later. My dad passed away in his sleep on March 8th. I wrote a long and meaningful eulogy for my papa here.

Can’t fly without you
Can’t fly without you.

Papa’s passing prompted my adult son and I to take a fast trip to West Virginia–with me doing all of the driving! I cannot even go into what a rushed and tiring trip this was. And grieving a lot of the way. But, I was glad to see the last property dad had bought, sit high on the ridge in peace and serenity, and have that entire road trip time with my son.

Later in the year, in September, I would find myself on another long road trip. This time, my husband and I took turns driving though. We drove from Florida to Tennessee for our sister-in-law, Mary Murrey’s funeral.

Sacred Celtic Journey

The trip I had booked in 2018 that was supposed to be taken in September 2019, was changed to July. And due to my father’s passing, my husband decided to join me and the group that was going.

It was a little last minute to pay for his ticket, but thankfully we knew before I had bought my airline ticket. And also thankfully, Patricia told us about Aer Lingus flights out of Orlando, and when I checked, they had non-stop flights for decent prices from Orlando to Dublin, Ireland (which was where our tour began). For more about that incredible trip, read all 3 parts, beginning here.

Seeing my girls

Went to NH to see my girls the week of Aug 5th. Only got to spend a week, but the best thing was that I got to sleep in my granddaughter’s room with her (that I couldn’t before without having breathing issues)! We had the best time!

Online classes

I participated in an 8 week class produced by the IONS group.
I thoroughly enjoyed engaging with our small group of 4 ladies in the Conscious Aging with facilitator, Beth Knight. This heartfelt group was sooo supportive and open to share meaningful life experiences!
I highly recommend taking this class if you’re over 50, or if you have any issues for yourself, parents, or other loved ones when it comes to embracing the aging process.
I also watched and bought the Keto Edge Summit package from Dr Jockers.
Near the end of the year, I hired a personal trainer for 12 sessions and astounded myself by how much I learned and what my body could do! I went from lifting 80 pounds to 200 pounds over the course of 3 months (due to illness, I had to skip some weeks), which really impressed me–read about that here.
About this same time, I hired a business coach and began working a one year plan, so my husband and I can work together to showcase his original music and art, travel, live off grid, and really combine his genius talent, experience, and education with mine. Read more about the direction we’re taking here.

Visiting friends in Florida

Finally, after saying we were going to see Tammy and Rodney for the last 10 years or so, we did it!! We took a weekend and went to Jupiter FL and the best bonus was that my elementary and high school friends, Nancy and husband, Jay, (who have lived in Stuart FL for years) got to join us!

We all had such a grand time that we want to go again!

Winning

I won a ticket to attend SoulTreat in Sedona AZ the weekend of Nov 2-3, 2019!!! I had two days on the red rocks and hike the same vortex behind the hotel where my Sedona siStars group had stayed when Alania and Patricia took us in 2016. I had an aWEsOMe experience and you can read more about that here.

But, before I could go to Sedona, I actually went to Las Vegas for an exciting health product convention! This was also a gift of a surprise when I had been told that my full-time job would end Nov. 30th (It didn’t and I may still be working through January 2020) and I reached out to my product sponsor that I needed to get busy sharing this product, (which my husband and I had been taking for a year). Read about that here.

Big News!

When we all thought my winning streak was over, I won again!

To me, all of this winning seemed to tell me that my papa wanted me to fly for him and enjoy all of the many opportunities in alignment for me. One of my intuitive friends told me it wasn’t only my dad lining these events up for me, but my grandfather! And for me, all I can do is say, “Thank You.” Thank you to all of my loving relatives here and in the Grand Beyond for these incredible and healing experiences!

Yes, I won a rare and highly prized ENTRY into the neolithic burial tomb Newgrange chamber for the 2019 Winter Solstice sunrise on Dec 18th!!! I was one of 60 people picked from 30,861 applications!!!

You can’t make this stuff up!

And the winning continued

At SoulTreat 2019 I bought $20 worth of raffle tickets and envisioned Shari Alyse calling out my name and saying that she was ecstatic that I, one of her SoulTreat winners, WON the Wellness pack worth over $1,000!!!

Well, Shari wasn’t the one who announced my name, but when Anna Pereira read my ticket number (which contained the number 18 that was synchronistic to me because of my dad), at first it took me a moment to realize it was me! Yep! I won this fantastic prize and it included a ticket to SoulTreat 2020!!!

After my flight home to Florida, I stuck to my commitment to present as a vendor at my local Women, Wine, and Wellness event in Cocoa (even though tired from a full day of travel and driving an hour from the airport). And won another gift there of a CBD pack, which I will be writing a product article about here. Stay tuned.

I invite you to stay tuned on the new coaching program I am currently putting together. If you have an interest in health, vitality, energy, consciousness, feeling better, and living a wholly vibrant life, I think you will love what I have in mind!

Meaningful scents

Scents that mean something

I have come upon two lovely products with scents that take me back. Ah, indeed one even honors my ancestors!

A great grandfather of mine (many greats back in my lineage), happened to be a fairly known rose gardener in England or Wales. So, it may surprise you to know, as it did me, that while touring the Roman Baths in Bath, England a few weeks ago, that I would stumble upon this gem: The Wiltshire Beekeeper’s English Rose Hand Cream! I picked two up, mostly just because these tins were small and useful (neat little souvenir), and to have something to give to my sister-in-law, Rose.

Wiltshire Beekeeper’s English Rose Hand Cream

Once we got back home and I began to use this luscious rose scented balm on my hands, when suddenly I was struck with the memory of my mom always telling me a phrase her father (my grandfather) used to say, “Take time to stop and smell the roses.” Ah! And the tears flowed. I remember grandfather! I do this everyday now because it uplifts my mind and well-being. 🌹

Once I smelled this body butter (and I don’t normally even use body butter), I had to buy it. Yes, it smelled THAT amazing! And it’s vibrant scent somehow put me at ease.

Once I got home, I looked at the label again and realized my mom’s name was on the label: Betty. Aww! Such a mystical find! So, I am wonderfully pleased with both of these beautiful holistic products that please my well-being.

As always, I’m your alternative health researcher, joyful wellness guinea pig, and mindful Spirit-Soul-Mind-Body guru! Reach out to me if you need a boost, or a boot, to get yourself back in charge of YOUR well-being. I’ll be offering a new holistic health & wellness coaching program soon!

Book Review: Voyages into the Unknown by Bruce Moen

Book Review: Voyages into the Unknown

Bruce Moen’s book, Voyages into the Unknown is deep and profound, with it’s assay into the bottomless mysteries one might imagine when you dare to dive into Afterlife exploration.

Sometimes, the word for word familiarity was uncanny with things I have experienced–other times, passages or terms were, at least initially, way over my head. Yet, Bruce’s writing kept me intrigued from start to finish–though I’m not entirely finished, as there are more books in this series to eagerly inspect.

For those of us who love fiction based on true stories, enjoy deep and riveting mysteries, or simply have a passion to dig through the numerous tangles within our Connections, I believe you’ll find this a treasured book.

Voyages into the Unknown
Voyages into the Unknown

I have enjoyed the challenge and stretch Voyages has brought to my ever evolving consciousness.

Consciousness, as a topic and in all of its aspects, beckons me to study it further, not out of mere curiosity as much as out of this fantastical question of “where do I stop and you begin?” –and because of my mother, aunt, and grandmother all suffered with Alzheimer’s dis-ease. I am a sleuth of sorts, always and in ALL ways forward-thinking to try and solve the riddle of why we’re here.

You may also like my post, Expanding Consciousness here.

Connections

I came to know Bruce’s writing through his beloved wife, Pharon. And I desired to finish her husband’s book before embarking on a Sacred Celtic Journey with my husband (a journey that Pharon, Patricia McGivern, Kim Cintio, and several more would also join).

I met Pharon on my Sedona journey, and we have stayed connected since. But, I had not gotten to know Bruce before his passing, or crossing over beyond The Veil. And I wanted to learn about him and his Afterlife exploration from having attended his memorial service, or Celebration of Life.

In order to live a wholly vibrant life, I feel we must continually expand our awareness. And when I saw several people from Bruce’s past Afterlife exploration attend his service (from as far away as Japan), I knew I must read his books. I love reading books, but reading books by those I know (or know their family member) is a real thrill!

Synchronicities

I don’t want to reveal too much, but I thought you might be interested in a few inside peeks to see what engaged me so much!

I’ll share three relevancies or synchronicities that struck a chord within me as I read, Voyages into the Unknown:

1) “Bits and pieces that ring true to your own experience…” (Bits and Pieces was the name of an establishment in my hometown of which, I can’t explain much about except it intrigued me and I looked forward to going there for years. When I was finally old enough to get in, it had closed for business.)

2) “All the events of my life seem so woven together and interconnected…” (I probably don’t need to explain why this sentence resonated with me, but if I do, read this.)

3) A powerful explanation about reoccurring dreams and how many times we remember these dreams 30 or 40 years later!

Believe it or not – a key to healing

Bruce details in his book a question that I have pondered for years. Why some people can have spontaneous healing in their bodies, yet others not–and while I agree none of us can really know how much Faith a person has, I dare say that I’ve known many who displayed great Faith (especially believing for others), yet continued to personally suffer. A key answer to this perplexing conundrum is put forth in Voyages–and it relates to how each must believe within our own frame of reference for the body to accept the healing!!!

Fascinating topics

If you are fascinated by any of the following, I believe (no, I FEEL), that you’ll love Voyages into the Unknown:

  • Afterlife exploration
  • Astrology
  • Hypnosis
  • Numerology
  • Paranormal experiences
  • Past lives
  • Quantum entanglement
  • Reincarnation

I wish for all of my readers to have fantastical synchronicities and experiences also!

Be open to receive.

Many blessings to you in ALL ways.

Amen and Namaste. OM

Finding the silver lining after traumatic dental experience

August 12th, 2017: I began to feel something going terribly wrong with one of my lower bicuspid teeth, #29. During the course of one weekend, the pain grew from a throb to the kind of head-banging, non-stop pain that would make a preacher cuss.
I soaked the tooth in alcohol, as the pain grew worse over the weekend. I didn’t know of any emergency dental offices, or that I could have gone to the hospital emergency room for a tooth (I later learned that I could have and that they could have started me on antibiotics until I could see a dentist).
By that Monday morning, my jaw was swollen.
I called up a dentist in Seminole, Florida whom I had seen a year or so before we moved to Palmetto, FL because I knew he had all of my records, and I had always received prompt, courteous, and expert care from him. His office was able to get me in the next day, and though it was a 45 minute drive to get there, I went.  Somehow, I thought it would be easier to go there instead of starting with a new dentist.
I wanted the tooth pulled. And the dentist didn’t want to pull it. I asked again for it to be pulled and explained my reasons. Keep in mind though that I am a non-confrontational type of person, as well as, emotionally and spiritually sensitive. Call it spineless if you want, but I am an empath who often finds that people do not listen to me–perhaps this explains why I’m a writer?
Anyway, after what I call a ‘dog and pony’ show, I was talked into saving the tooth and having a root canal and crown. The dentist performed the root canal.
He did a fine job, using a specialized instrument that beeped when he reached the very bottom tip of the root, so that he could fill the now empty root space with whatever standard dental filling material they use.
I’d already explained that I didn’t want amalgam materials in my mouth and though this was not a holistic or biologic dentist, he understood and agreed to that for me.
However, during the cleaning of the root, the dental hygienist / assistant spilled the bleach solution (used during the procedure to sanitize the root space) in my mouth! She immediately apologized, seeing what had happened, and began to rinse all of this liquid out of my mouth.
Sept 3rd, 2017: After experiencing the pain (and aggravation) of an abscessed tooth for nearly 3 weeks (including the multiple dental appointments), I know there is more to learn about letting go of pain in the body, so I listened to a free online summit to learn more.
Apparently, I was experiencing a tooth abscess.
To note here: I’d always taken good care of my teeth (or so I’d thought), and had never had an abscess before, so all of this was completely new to me.
Once home, I read that this rinsing procedure is supposed to be done with gentle water pressure, and she had used too much. Therefore, I lived with chemical burns in my mouth for a week or more until it healed.
But, that was not the worst part of this story.
Six weeks from the time that first bicuspid abscessed, the same tooth, on the opposite side of my mouth, #20, began to hurt.
Even though I know about the meridian system of the body, and figured there was an energy component to all of this, I also quickly knew how painful it could become, as it felt similar to the pain I had experienced six weeks prior.
I called a new dentist who’d been referred to me by three friends. This dentist’s office was much closer to where we were living. At least, I wouldn’t have to miss a whole day of work, and I could get there quicker to relive the pain.
Live and learn as they say. What I had failed to ask our friends was if they’d ever been to this dentist (whom they all loved) for an abscessed tooth. My bad.
The first numbing shot went into my jaw hinge; my lip wasn’t even numb. So, the new dentist gave me another shot and asked if I was numb after a few more minutes.
Yes, I was numb. And then the drilling began.
If you don’t already know this, most dentists will remove an old crown before performing a root canal on a tooth. Yet, for whatever reason, since tooth #20 was holding a three unit bridge in my mouth this dentist decided to drill THROUGH the crown!
Even while this man was drilling through the #20 bicuspid crown, I was wincing. He noticed and said, “I’ll do something else to get to it.”
I don’t know what he did, but he was working down in the root and the nerve pain was unbearable for at least 10 seconds.
I began banging my left hand on the arm of the chair, thinking this would make him STOP! He didn’t stop.
I banged my hand on the chair several more times and though he said he was sorry, he informed me that we were half way through and that I needed to “hang on.” He continued, saying, “It won’t hurt anymore in a minute.”
I’ve been through natural childbirth twice in my life. It was equivalent to that pain, but crammed into one tooth for ten seconds.
Tears dripped from my eyes.
I held my sh*t together, but stuffed my anger (even knowing that’s not the thing to do).
After he finished, he asked me if I had ever been this hard to “numb up” before (like this was somehow my fault). I thought to myself, no, recalling that I’d just been “numbed up” six weeks prior for the root canal work done on the other side of my mouth–and that part of the former procedure had been fine.
This dentist didn’t use any bleach in the empty root like the previous dentist had. He didn’t even have water to swish my mouth with, though the assistant did use a vacuum I think, because I could hear the air.
He said he would have to research the 100% porcelain 3D printed bridge (which was the only question that I had gone in there with to ask about) because normally he uses crowns made of porcelain over metal. Ugh!
The previous dentist in Seminole only uses the full porcelain and had told me he’d only been using those for several years.
Before I left, this Bradenton dentist asked me what was wrong. My tears continued to flow from my eyes., but I couldn’t put it into words. I only knew that I felt violated. It had hurt like hell. What the !@#$ was I supposed to say? You’re a horrible dentist?!?
He tried to explain to me that some people have a nerve on the inside of the mouth, below the gum and roots, and that it can be hard to get it numb.
My later research would indicate that he was referring to either the Inferior alveolar nerve, Mandibular nerve, or Mental nerve–and since I am not a dentist, I do not know which one would run under tooth #20. But, I guess this was his way of apologizing.
I felt as though I’d been dentally raped. The experience triggered old emotional wounds.
I should have walked out when he first displayed his lack of bedside manner, and the “no personality” front desk women told me she didn’t know what to do (at first), when I told her the name of my new dental insurance. Ugh!
At the end of it all, and after spending literally thousands of dollars on my teeth in my adult life to straighten and crown teeth, it dawned on me. I had just endured the most horrible dental experience of my life!
Within three weeks, that 3 unit bridge fell off while I was snacking on some soft cheese. Thankfully, I didn’t swallow it.
Check out this picture. I still can’t get over the shoddy workmanship of it. And look how large the hole is that the Bradenton dentist drilled through it. No wonder there was nothing left of the real tooth underneath the bridge–nothing left to hold another bridge had I wanted one!

Bad 3 unit bridge.jpg
3 Unit Bridge

What did I learn?
  • General dentists should not do root canal.
  • I need an oral surgeon to safely and painlessly extract (remove) my teeth
  • I am going to have teeth pulled before ever having another root canal
  • I am going to keep pulling teeth until it’s time to get dentures
  • I am only going to see a holistic or biologic dentist in the future; no matter how far I have to drive
It’s pain-free or dentures from here on out.
After the two root canals were done, I’d thought I could forget about going to the dentist for awhile. But, about the time we moved from the west to the east coast of Florida, tooth #28 became very sensitive. It didn’t hurt when I ate, but when I flossed, used a toothpick or dental pick, it would hurt.
I read through ads, used Google, and all sorts of things to find an oral surgeon in Brevard county, Florida. I called the first oral surgeon I found in Merritt Island and made an appointment.
Though I felt confident by this time that I could successfully navigate my way through the whole experience, and trusting that his job was to remove teeth, I thought I could get what I desired. But, noooo. Once again, I met with resistance.
When I scheduled the appointment and arrived at the Merritt Island dental practice, I specifically stated that I was there to have at least three teeth extracted (I actually had wanted more pulled). I wanted the two teeth that had been holding the 3 unit bridge and the sensitive tooth on the other side pulled.
I really did not trust that the Bradenton dentist had performed the root canal on #20 correctly.
However, after a 45 minute consultive dog and pony show with this one, he said, “I’m not an oral surgeon” and referred me to someone in Melbourne, FL!
I was outraged, though proud that I had stood up for what I wanted. Yes, I had remained steadfast in my desire to have these three teeth pulled and firm in wanting dentures.
I said that I had specifically asked for the teeth to be extracted when I made the appointment and that he was listed as an oral surgeon where I’d found his information online. He laughed! He noted that all of these sites online tag him as an oral surgeon and other things (yet, apparently he’s never attempted to have those tags corrected). Grrr.
The only good takeaway I had from this visit was when his dental hygienist told me that I’d been  “dentally traumatized” by the prior two experiences on the west coast of Florida. And I agreed with her on that, though dental trauma is actually defined as accidental injury to teeth, and the trauma I experienced was more emotional–though triggered by the physical nerve pain the Bradenton dentist had caused.
Once again feeling duped, I gave up.
I started brushing my teeth with hydrogen peroxide and within a three or four days the tooth sensitivity on #28 magically went away. UPDATE 9/11/2019: KEY POINT–This was why my natural teeth turned gray!!! (Thank you, Trina Felber for mentioning why NOT to brush teeth for prolonged period with hydrogen peroxide! WOW! Light bulb moment! 💡 Check out my articles here and here!
Eventually, my husband also had three teeth that he wanted pulled. He found an oral surgeon. Went for a consult. And then, a few days later, returned for the extraction. My hubby had no issues at all. None! He was so pleased that he told the oral surgeon, Dr. Gerald W. Bird, that he’d send me in to see him.
Watching Richard get through his oral surgery and heal successfully, was motivation enough for me to try again. And my dear darling husband even offered to go into the consultation with me, to ensure I could get what I had been saying I wanted.
Interestingly, Dr. Bird’s office is in Cocoa Village, much closer to us than Melbourne. Thus, I couldn’t figure out why the Merritt Island dentist (who was supposed to be an oral surgeon but wasn’t) wouldn’t have referred me to Dr. Bird? Was it possible he did not know Dr. Bird? Or was there another motive at play? I’d love someone to comment an answer to me.
In fact, I may send this whole blog article to the dental commission in Florida (along with most of the names I’ve removed) to see if there’s anything they can do about this–and perhaps save other people from experiencing some of the negative experiences I’ve had in less than a year.
Suffice to say, Dr. Bird listened to me. He gave me his advice about trying to save tooth #28, even though he gets paid for extracting teeth. I’d had my consult with him on a Friday and by the next Monday he performed the extraction of teeth #18 and #20 flawlessly. I was sedated for the procedure and sent home (with Richard driving) with a pain prescription that I didn’t even need to use.
The silver lining:
Hold on. Before I get to the best part of this story, there’s one more challenging thing.
Dental deception during the appointment setting process.
I called to schedule an appointment with a lady dentist (who I’d found by Google searching). Somehow when I called, the number rang a different dentist, and the person I spoke with did not confirm the dentist’s name or location.
You see, I’d only had the weekend to research for a holistic type of dentist, between the time I’d met Dr. Bird for a consult, and the time that he would be extracting three teeth on Monday. If tooth #28 was to be saved, as Dr. Bird believed it might only need a filling, I felt that I needed a dentist more aligned with my holistic belief system.
While searching for someone who thought holistically, used ozone, and did not believe in using amalgam fillings, I found the office of Dr. Claire Stagg in Indian Harbor Beach, Florida.
I was overjoyed with Dr. Stagg’s videos and with everything on her website that I read about her practice. But, I must not have entered her office phone number as a contact in my iPhone.
When the time came (after healing from the oral surgery) to call her for an appointment, I must have just done one of those quick lookups and mistakenly called the wrong dental office.
Thus, the day of the appointment I arrived at Dr. Stagg’s office and her abSOULutely wonderful office gal, Vanessa, nicely explained to me that although they were expecting a new patient that morning, it wasn’t me.
I was stunned.
I almost cried. But, I held it together.
I sat down and called the lady I’d just talked with the day before, when she’d called me to confirm my dental insurance. The day before, she had called me to confirm the appointment, but did not mention the name of the dentist, or their location. If she said the name of the office, she said it so fast that I didn’t understand her.
While sitting in Dr. Stagg’s waiting area, I called the number back for the woman I had spoken with and asked where their office was located. I still could not wrap my mind around what had happened. She said they were located in Rockledge, Florida.
I hung up, triggered with emotions. I couldn’t figure out how I had gotten that wrong, especially after I’d spent hours on Dr. Stagg’s website.
I apologized to Vanessa for wasting her time, and asked if she could schedule me with an appointment, knowing full well it probably would NOT happen the same day, and besides, I had an afternoon appointment at 1:00pm with another doctor in Titusville.
Vanessa said she thought they could fit me in at 1:00. Feeling the cloud of emotion overtake me, I told her I had another appointment at that same time and asked if we could set up something for October.
By the time I made it out to my rental car, I was beside myself. I was judging myself and feeling defeated. I was triggered with more emotions–this time involving my mother’s Alzheimer’s. Thoughts were swirling in my mind that this must be the kind of thing my mama had gone through for years.
I looked at my phone and saw a voicemail. I took a few moments to calm myself (using breathing techniques and EFT) before driving.
As I pulled out onto A1A, I listened to the voicemail. It was my doctor’s office receptionist saying that they apologized, but they had somehow wrongly scheduled me for a Thursday appointment, and Thursday’s are the doctor’s surgery days.
I whipped the car around at the next traffic light, and went back in to see Vanessa about getting that 1:00 appointment.
To me, this was divine intervention.
ItsAllConnected.jpg
Thankfully, Dr. Claire Stagg’s office more than made up for my appointment scheduling mistake. And I ended up having a wonderful experience with her and her staff instead of wasting a day off work, and the cost of a rental car.
Vanessa gave me my new patient paperwork, which included many questions, and spoke to me in a helpful and calm tone to ensure I understood all that I needed to fill out before returning to their office that afternoon.
Vanessa and Dr. Stagg were the silver lining to my day.
Though the whole appointment thing had totally been my fault and the fault of the other office in Rockledge for not verifying their dentists’ name and location when I had called them, by that afternoon, I found that I was in a good place physically and emotionally.
I had a comprehensive new patient exam at Dr. Claire Stagg’s office, which is aptly named, Health Connections.

Dr. Claire Stagg at Health Connections Dentistry offers an amazing array of testing and non-surgical approaches to find causes and relief for issues such as: TMJ, Craniofacial pain, sleep disorders, snoring, and more to support whole body wellness through dentistry. If you have those issues, she’s the one to see.

My research

Too much sugar and processed foods will only make dental problems worse, while vitamin and mineral rich foods and supplements that are easily digestible, will help build a glassy hard tooth structure. These types of foods and various herbs will also provide a strong antibacterial component, which is helpful in keeping those harmful microbes in your mouth at bay.

Eat plenty of foods rich in vitamins A, D, E, and K. Almonds (soaked), avocado, basil, beef liver, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, butter, cabbage, carrots, coconut oil, cucumbers, eggs, kale, mushrooms, natto, salmon, scallions, spinach, sunflower seeds, sweet potato, or tuna.

For supplementation, take fermented cod liver oil, mineral formulas, and magnesium which, the body can use for the calcium and phosphorus to work correctly. Take mineral drops in water daily and use Ancient Minerals oil to get more magnesium into the body to help rebuild teeth.

Pain relief for abscess tooth:
The first dentist gave me two different kinds of antibiotics (one of the antibiotics was Clindamycin, which later I found out can give people C-diff!!!) and 220mg Aleve. I tried 2 at a time which the dentist recommended, but they made me queasy, thus I stopped those. Oddly, the pain seemed most severe at midnight and noon! Weird.
The first day (this was with the first abscessed tooth), I dogged through the pain after Publix wouldn’t fill my prescription because we were “out of the area” and it’s a controlled substance.
I had only slept one hour Sunday night, so by that Monday any relief made me sleepy. After crying from the pain at midnight Monday night, I slept for 6 hours.
I noticed that when I held the acupressure point (on my hand where thumb and index finger meet) it seemed to help. I was trying to work also, so it was difficult to work/type, and hold my acupressure point. When my husband noticed that, he was bound and determined to make the store fill the pain script.
By noon that Tuesday, Richard took me to Walgreens and we got the pain pills.
I guess the pain forced me to grow a spine by then and was determined to get those pain pills, if I had to physically go over the counter to get them! It sure gave me perspective for those unfortunate souls who live in daily pain.
Funny thing was, when the clerks behind the counter saw me, with my ice bag on my face, they asked about the address but didn’t give us a hard time. By holding ice on my jaw for an hour or so, the severe pain had subsided. I really think the ice has to nearly freeze the jaw before it helps.
Of course a slice of raw ginger was the best thing to relieve the pain naturally, along with the ice and acupressure.
Dental tooth essential oils
First off, essential oils are antibacterial, anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory, and antiviral. Thus, we’re all in pretty good hands when we keep a few of these in our medicine cabinets. Note: Who named that bathroom cabinet a “medicine cabinet” anyway? Hmm.
In alphabetical order you can try:
  • Cinnamon Bark oil
  • Clove oil (My favorite, and it helps topically numb your gum since its an analgesic.)
  • Mastic oil (Reduces plaque and helps heal gums.)
  • Myrrh oil (Similar effects to Clove oil)
  • Oil of Oregano (My favorite is Oreganol P73.)
  • Peppermint oil
  • Tea Tree oil or Melaleuca (Best for reducing plaque, which can cause gum disease.)
  • Wintergreen oil
Some people, even dentists, like to promote Xylitol also for cavity prevention and more, however I point to Dr. Axe regarding the use of Xylitol as I have tried it a year or two ago to help with breaking the snack habit, and it caused me excess bloating and more. You can read about that on Dr. Axe’s website:

Any person or company I’ve ever represented has a product I love & use myself. Should you choose to purchase anything I recommend, thank you in advance for your trust. 😊 And naturally, if it’s not for you, I completely understand.

My next blog article will explore biological dentistry.

BE-ing Wholly Vibrant – 5 Steps

I believe the following 5 steps can add to your BE-ing wholly vibrant as you share your heart, love, gifts, and time with those nearest to you–your family, loved ones, friends, neighbors, and those less fortunate. Check it out and let me know if you agree.

IMG_3583

Step 1:
Know who is most important to you.

Make a list of all of the people in your family. Include your spouse, if there is one. Include your boyfriend or girlfriend, no matter how long you’ve been together. Include your children, grand children, step-children, half-children, adopted children, foster children, god children, and so forth. Include your parents and grandparents (if still living), aunts, uncles, first cousins, second cousins, third cousins, and so on.
Step 2:
How long has it been?
Next to the names on your list, place an approximate date next to their name for the last time you visited with them in person, talked on the phone, or such. Are you surprised at the length of time that’s elapsed since you visited with them? And if you love them, why do you love them? Why wouldn’t you place them high enough on your list of priorities to ensure you visit with them at least every few years.
If you’re a “saved” individual and pray for your loved ones–hoping you’ll spend eternity in heaven with them–why, when you can’t make time for them in the here and NOW?
I loved seeing my first cousins at my mom’s Memorial this past August. Some I’d talked with on–or very soon after–the day of my mother’s transition to the Great Beyond. But several, I’ve still not talked with, even months later. My ego isn’t hurt. My heart is hurt! I’m grieving because I realize how short our lives are and I’ve not had the opportunity to share with all of my loved ones.
Remember, people will eventually forget the things you gave them, but they’ll always remember how you made them feel. And time together is the most aWEsOMe way to cultivate those feelings.
Step 3:
Make the call, no matter how long it’s been or why you haven’t talked in years.
One of the best things that happened when my mother passed was that one of my cousins who I’d been mutually estranged, called me the day after she’d gotten the news of my mother’s death.
At first, I didn’t think I’d want to talk with her since we had not talked in over a decade due to a disagreement over my mother’s illness and care. But because I’d been doing so much work on my self-growth (mind, body, and spirit), I answered the phone and decided to see how the conversation would go. And we talked like we’d never missed a beat. Neither of us beat up on the other. And I believe it was a positive, self-regulating conversation–filled with love.
In another example, when I went to my 30 year high school reunion, one of my old friends (since about 3rd or 4th grade) was so excited to see me, that as my husband and I approached—she was standing with a group of gals outside—literally jumped up and down because she was so ecstatic to see me after 30 years! And while we had a wonderful, heartfelt visit during that first evening, it didn’t take me long to start to realize how many years I’d been away. Later, she told me something akin to, “We need to stay in touch. I just need to figure out how to fit you into my life.” Sadly, that’s been 7 years ago with rarely a comment on Facebook to each other.
Step 4:
Prioritize your time with your end goal in mind.
So, I get it. We’re all busy with work, school, hobbies, kids, friends, neighbors, clubs, vacations, and so on. But, at what price? Are we choosing to prioritize money, status, ego, whatever, over and above our loved ones–including family and dear friends? Maybe.
Maybe you really don’t have time to travel to be with your loved ones. But nearly everyone has access to the internet. Check out Google Hangout or Skype. There’s almost always a way to connect with your family and friends if you make a bit of your time available. I bet they’d love to hear from you!
If I still haven’t enticed you to reach out, let me ask you this. What if you were dying in a year, six or three months, who would you regret not reconnecting with?
I present to you two interviews my husband and I watched that brought this topic to my mind and prompted me to write this.
Blake Mykoski (of Toms shoes) with Tim Ferris on Tim’s new show that we love, Fear(less):
And Dan Rather interviewed Carlos Santana on, The Big Interview (which I found a portion of here):
Both said in these interviews that their bucket list includes one best thing to do and that is to spend time with family!
Step 5:
What gifts can you offer to someone less fortunate than you–even if it’s only a smile?
Maybe you give to a favorite charity. Bravo! Maybe you volunteer at a hospital, wellness center, clinic, or nursing home. Kudos! Maybe you do random acts of kindness because time or money is a real factor for you and you can’t spare much. It’s all good, and no one is judging you.
At the least of it, you pay your taxes. Know that part of your tax dollars is going to support our veterans in need. Feel warm about this and smile.
Each of us can do something to cultivate our Connections. And that’s a wholly vibrant way to be!
Much love and many blessings dear ones.

To our feeling great, better health, and longevity,

Finding natural health and beauty doctors – Tampa and St Petersburg Florida

Originally published for Examiner(dot)com

Moved again. (Sigh!) But you gotta go where the work is. So, here I am again writing another article about how to find natural alternative and holistic health and wellness professionals.

Whenever my husband or I have a health issue I want my wellness team lined up and at the ready so we can take care of it early. As I’ve said before, the sooner you seek “well care” when you feel something is off in your body, the quicker an alternative therapy is apt to work.

Thought process

Let me start by giving you my thought process. Even if you have a lot of other priorities for instance, sports, extracurricular activities, etc., still you need to complete a senior project to graduate successfully. I began searching for those who would comprise my wellness team on Google before we moved. Then I went to the Natural Awakenings magazine for the Tampa / St. Pete area. They’re always a solid research tool.

Getting out in the Community

One of the first places I found (while driving around town), was the community acupuncture clinic! They will be first on my list to call if I feel I need care.

I’m excited to find them because my first acupuncture doctor moved to South Carolina a few years ago and started a community clinic there – so I am familiar with this type of business model and believe it will help more people (because they charge a reduced, sliding scale fee for services). Also, the community acupuncture clinic has more than one acupuncture doctor. That should mean, less waiting, and more opportunity to meet the one who’s just right for you.

Websites

While researching one of the acupuncture physician’s website it occurred to me I should check the Florida State Oriental Medical Association web page and see who all they have listed in St. Petersburg!

As my readers know, I prefer alternative health / natural health experts such as: a naturopath and acupuncturist, instead of western practitioners. Of course, you can also adjunct your regular medical health regimen with many natural health modalities like, yoga, massage, and essential oils.

In my experience, western / allopathic medical doctors spend much of their time in school being indoctrinated about pharmaceuticals. Most have only taken one course in nutrition! So, the natural health and holistic health avenues, just make more sense to me. And the natural health and holistic health services I am sold on have been around thousands of years – to me even if they take longer, I prefer them to a pill which only masks symptoms and may cause something far worse than your original problem!

I say this because I was surprised to find a clinic where MDs are offering a new approach, working together with chiropractors, acupuncturists, and much more to offer a substantial variety of treatments that treats the cause – what a concept! I would love to hear from anyone who has went to the Millennium Health & Wellness – please email me.

As I am writing this, the Body Mind & Spirit Expo is going on at the Sheraton Tampa Airport Westshore.

Mindset

But it is what it is, and people will only believe what they want to believe. That’s why in most reviews for the Body Mind & Spirit Expo they say to come and allow your mind to open / expand. My mind is already wide open because I believe God works in powerful and mysterious ways. I also believe God is limitless possibility, so I put my judgements aside and try things out – I figure it’s a lot safer to try food and natural cures, than trust any medication that has a side effect list as long as my arm! LOL

Stores

I started looking for a couple of really good health food stores. Found one! Sunshine Health Foods on Seminole Blvd. I visited the store and talked with owner/manager, Sue, for about an hour.

The Sunshine Health Foods store is well organized and includes a comfortable sitting area if you would like to peruse the many health and wellness related books they have, and learn (like I’ve been doing) about how to take care of yourself naturally.

Sue was kind enough to lead me to a massage therapist (next door) and an acupuncture clinic just up the road. I also picked up more holistic health type local magazines.

I love all kinds of health food / organic markets – they don’t have to be huge, or carry “everything” which, is why I like to find at least two. As for a “doctor,” I want a naturopath or acupuncture physician who truly listens to me about any and all issues I have going on then, using investigative tools, plans the necessary treatment and works to guide me in staying the course.

I am your local wellness activist and EFT practitioner ready to provide you a list of alternative, holistic, or complimentary medicine doctors located in St. Petersburg / Tampa Florida. I’ve linked each to their own websites so you can get more information about them or contact their office.
