For those who have trouble meditating

Do you have trouble meditating?

There is this one little physical thing you can do (that a massage therapist taught me years ago), when you are wanting to meditate, but feel that you can’t because your mind is racing.

I learned this one move, and have taught it to many other since, that helped me in the beginning when I couldn’t seem to meditate because my mind was always ON.

Try the following procedure and let me know if it helps.

Trouble meditating?

The procedure

Start by closing your eyes and rubbing two fingers (of each hand), up the bridge of both sides of your nose, and while maintaining the same pressure, move your fingers over and above your eye brows to make circles around yours eyes.

You can do this several times, and even go in reverse circles, lightening the pressure as you go.

As you notice your thoughts slowing down, you can stop this motion and relax your hands to your sides and then simply focus on your breathing.

The outcome

This one move really can ease the mind racing or mind chatter, especially when one begins learning meditation. Namaste. OM ❤️🦋🌀

It can’t hurt

It can’t hurt

“It can’t hurt” has been a guiding principle for me for many years. A philosophy that I have applied in many areas of my life, in particular to new strategies in business and in health matters.

Health strategies that can’t hurt

Eat more nutritious food

One of the easiest and best things each of us can do to live a healthier life, is simply to eat more nutritious food, preferably quality organic, local, fresh foods. It can’t hurt.

Move more

Another easy way to improve our health is to move more. I’m not talking about going from couch potato to marathon runner overnight, but start with 5 minutes and increase your movement (calisthenics, walking, dance, yoga, qigong, or such), everyday until you can build up to 40 minutes of movement. Measure and monitor yourself. If you ease into movement, it can’t hurt.

Meditate

Yes, the opposite of moving is stillness. Take control over your mind and body to sit quietly for a few minutes each day and focus on your breath. The new science is showing positive results, yes, physical improvements, from simply meditating. Try it. It can’t hurt.

Detoxify

A grand strategy that everyone can do is to detox. Pick your favorite detoxifying method and do it regularly. Once a year, quarterly, or monthly. We all get too many chemicals in us, via breathing, food, water, what we wear, and what we put on our skin. It can’t hurt.

Holistic health & Holism

I was telling my daughter the other day that pharmaceutical drugs always have side effects. That’s one reason I don’t take any—and if I have to, then I always make pharma meds a last resort. My health plan is to always go with the least toxic option first, because it can’t hurt.

Try some new self-care techniques. Speak loving and kind words to your body. The cells of your body are listening! And it can’t hurt.

Connection matters.

My self-care tip: When you go to the bathroom, give yourself a foot massage! Cross one leg over the other and massage your foot including your toes! Switch legs and repeat on the other side. If you work involved standing all day, I bet you’ll thank me for this tip! And if you sit all day, this re-establishes blood flow. It can’t hurt.

Hug yourself. Hug someone everyday. And put your hands together when you pray. It connects the circuits—our circuitry. It can’t hurt.

Sound and light therapies can ease tense muscles, relieve headaches, and improve many ills. Look for some of these to try. It can’t hurt.

Whenever you have a minor health issue, reach for your essential oils, Renew28, ASEA, CBD oil, or other health supplement. Sometimes I find I have the solution to whatever ails me, in my bathroom cabinets! And it doesn’t hurt to apply most of these remedies in new ways—consult your trusted holistic health team for advice if you’re unsure.

Measure & Track your progress

Measure and monitor yourself. Save some money and coach yourself. Yes, I know a personal trainer can show you the proper form and ways to exercise, but once you learn the basics, all they do is motivate you by measuring your weights and time. And you can do that for yourself. Same with personal coaches too.

Write 3 things down on a whiteboard that you want to improve about your life. Assign a number from 1-10 how you feel about each of those things. Give yourself a date by which to accomplish the change you desire. Figure out what steps you need to take to achieve those results. Break the goal into bite-size, measurable chunks, and stay focused on reaching your goal by reminding yourself why you want to change. You got this. And it can’t hurt to try it for yourself before you hire someone else to coach you. You may find that you were more capable than you thought!

Trying to lose weight? Try intermittent fasting. Also a form of detoxing, fasting for 12-16 hours a day or skipping a dinner every other day, has worked for me. And fasting can be especially wonderful for women over 40 (as it resets the metabolism). It can’t hurt to give it a try.

Working out at home!

Working out at home!

So, after working out for 12 sessions with a personal trainer, Michael Slotin, I figured out several ways to get my workouts done at home. Good thing too, because we’ll be moving in a few weeks and I will lose my “in person” access to my trainer anyway.

Lifting 200 pounds!

Thank you, Michael Slotin at Fitness Therapy in Cocoa Beach, Florida!

https://vimeo.com/377594487

Plus, after visiting another gym, I am not comfortable going to a place full of fit people or highly muscular types. I know how that sounds, and while I am sure they are all wonderful and nice people, I am in my late 50s and don’t feel like I connect. Please feel free to comment and help me improve my mindset about that, as I don’t want to think age limits any of us!

Anyway, here’s the list I have put together for my home workouts, and maybe it will help someone else too!

The list

Remember to speak (verbally or mentally) to the body while working out because the cells listen to us. Also, visualize the movements and outcome you desire pre-workout.
Use Energy Medicine techniques first, to prepare the body for movement.

Walking (swing the arms with the elbow bent)

Yoga

Qigong

Yamuna stretching

Calf raises on a stair or other solid and stable object

Leg curls laying with belly on the floor while wearing ankle weights and gripping resistance bands (though I was up to 160 lbs of weight for these on the MedX machine and I doubt I could find ankle weights of that weight! Haha!)

Leg extensions using Pilates techniques while wearing the same ankle weights and holding a resistance band, though again, I was up to 200 lbs for this exercise on the MedX machine. As an alternate way to get this leg work in, a timed slow standing squat, counting to 10 on the way up, and counting to 5 on the way down for 2 minutes is working well for me!

Standing hamstring stretch by crossing the feet and bending at the waist til head reaches the front knee. Place chair in front for balance. Keep knees straight.

Standing thigh stretch holding each foot (one at a time) with the same hand (right hand on the right foot) and pulsing back 10 times while standing by our kitchen island for balance support.

Figure 8 thigh raises to loosen hips and increase hip flexibility.

Tricep and bicep arm work using 20 pound weight dumbbells.

Inner thigh squeezes, seated, with one Yamuna ball between the knees.

Inner arm squeezes using one Yamuna ball between elbows.

Crunches on my back while squeezing both Yamuna balls between knees and elbows.

Hip raises while lying on back on the floor.

Note: Squeeze the pelvic floor muscles while lifting any weights and doing the hip raises.

Timing

Lift weights up to the point of muscle exhaustion every other day (for the same muscle), so as not to overtrain.

Note: See Adam’s comment in the comments section.

Will continuous participation in physical activities promote longevity?
Regular exercise will slow the aging process down without spending much money. A good exercise program you follow regularly is one of the best ways to lose weight, reduce muscle loss, spare bone density, and prevent or slow any form of heart and cholesterol-related disease.

Recovery

Drink 2 ounces of ASEA post workout to aid faster muscle recovery, improve performance, and reduce soreness.

Rub Renew 28 on your muscles too!

Buy that here.

Drink plenty of pure water after working out. Aim for half your body weight in total ounces of pure water, (or unsweetened tea or clear broth) each day to flush fat and toxins from the body. Remember, that there’s water in fresh raw vegetables too!

And get at least 7-8 hours of sleep.

Immune health is interconnected

The gut health and chronic dis-ease connection

More is coming to light about the way our guts are related to the health of our immune systems. It’s becoming increasingly important for us to learn how to assist our body’s innate immunity, to benefit from good health.

Our gut (our intestines that make up the microbiome) has quickly become one of the most interesting and engaging topics in medicine. Researchers are exploring the powerful interconnection between human health and the vast ecosystem of bacteria, fungi, protozoa, and viruses living quietly inside. When this ecosystem is out of balance, it can set one up to experience chronic diseases. Such dis-ease might include: auto-immune issues, diabetes, heart disease, mood disorders, and obesity.

Immune health is interconnected with our gut
Immune health is interconnected with our gut

Scientific research now shows that people who have a more diverse gut microbiome have stronger immune systems. When we lack microbial diversity, our immune system suffers. As our immune systems weaken, chronic dis-eases like: autism, insulin resistance, colorectal cancer, Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, celiac disease, multiple sclerosis, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), and more can set in.

Full article here.

We need to focus on how we can support and maintain our immune system, aid and encourage healthy blood pressure, help protect cholesterol levels, and get deep and restful sleep, etc.

Encourage learning

ALL wellness practitioners and companies need to assist us in our health journeys. And we all need to encourage each other appropriately and positively to implement healthy habits.

Innate immunity

Innate immunity refers to nonspecific defense mechanisms that come into play immediately or within hours of an antigen’s appearance in the body. These mechanisms include physical barriers such as skin, chemicals in the blood, and immune system cells that attack foreign cells in the body. The innate immune response is activated by chemical properties of the antigen. Courtesy of:

Cancer

In a research study of about 78,000 men and women without any previous history of cancer or diabetes, a significant number of those who consumed high amounts of sugar over a 7 year timeframe developed pancreatic cancer. The study research stated, “The consumption of added sugar, soft drinks and sweetened fruit soups or stewed fruit was positively associated with the risk of pancreatic cancer.”

Studies show cancer cells rely on sugar to function. Thus, your cancer risk goes up when you consume sugar. The mitochondria of cancer cells thrive on sugar and don’t burn other fuel as effectively.

Diabetes

Foods such as: cinnamon, gymnema sylvestre, and turmeric are especially helpful as anti-diabetic agents. Thus, it may be prudent to add these foods to your diet often.

Obesity

Our brain, gut, and hormones think we need to store more fat than we need. Obese people have an elevated “set-point weight”, otherwise known as hormonal dysregulation. This means that our body thinks we need more food, yet we have too much.

An overweight person can get a fecal implant from a thin person and become thin, by resetting their weight set-point.

Hormonally helpful foods can ease the body to reduce its set-point weight. A microbiome test can provide results to include a list of these foods.

Deep Breathing

Deep Breathing

One of the easiest and most profound ways you can improve your health and ease tension, is to practice several deep breathing techniques–daily.

Deep breathing

Deep breathing

Breathing techniques

First, Lama Nicholas Packard taught me this breathing method which goes like this:

Place your hands on your abdomen and as you inhale, see your hands and abdomen rise (or move outward). Direct your breath to the sides of your body so your ribs expand out. Your upper chest will rise last in this process.

Then, when you exhale bring your belly in first, then your ribs, and finally your upper chest.

Daily breathing like this (start with 5 minutes and increase the amount of time a little bit each day), benefits and heals the lungs.

This practice will increase the air capacity of the lungs.

Second, In the two hour Pranayama breathing workshop Dr. Ronald K. Porter joyously used story, music, dialogue, and meditation with each of us to explore the connect our breath (pranayama) and life vitality. After we did each breathing technique he asked each of us, how we felt in our body.

Drawing from Yogic, Buddhist, and Taoist traditions, Dr. Porter taught us 7 forms of pranayama and explore the numerous sensations produced in the body when we simply “be here now,” allowing ourselves to be in touch with our breathing.

During the class, my right knee was healed!! I loved the class so much that I started going to Dr. Porter’s yoga classes and invited friends to go too!

As well, Jeff Primack teaches Pranayama breathing, which is one of the best deep breathing practices one can master.

Here are two fantastic short videos about Pranic healing:

http://www.pranicvitality.com/pranic-healing

https://www.pranicvitality.com/pranic-healing

The list

  • Belly expanding/contracting (as explained previously)
  • Pranayama breathing
  • Kriya breathing
  • Diaphragmatic breathing
  • Counting breaths (inhale for a certain number, hold, exhale for a certain number–usually for longer than you inhaled)
  • Alternate nostril breathing

Why is breathing important?

Every breath grabs oxygen from the air and brings it into your lungs. Oxygen is absorbed by the hemoglobin in blood and pumped (primarily by your heart) throughout the trillions of cells in your body. If you hold your breath for a minute you’ll begin to turn blue. This should convince anyone that oxygen is vital to the cells in your body.

Alternate nostril breathing can (at least temporarily) relieve high blood pressure.

Mind-body exercises, at their core, help us to focus on our breath, help us relax (the mind and body), ease stress by releasing pent up tension, increase feelings of worthiness and belonging (by connecting different parts of the body with our breath), improve our physical flexibility and stamina, and bring balance back to the body.

Don’t discount natural remedies because you haven’t heard about them from your doctor, as often the experts disagree on what can help us.

Continue to explore other techniques and be sure to comment!

Many blessings to you in ALL ways.

UPDATE

This particular program has ended, but the journey continues… and Alania is giving us a bonus call, due to a little tech glitch on the last call). She’s a giver in that way! Yay! 😉

From my participation in Alania’s classes, new openings for me occurred, including:

  • Trusting more when new paths appear
  • I can repattern any limiting thoughts; even the ones karma set up for me
  • It’s okay to shift my focus, particularly one I thought had to be the way it was
  • Nothing is wrong; and that brought to mind Dr. Alison’s book, What If There’s Nothing Wrong, which I studied a few years ago. I also wrote a PR piece and article about this amazing book. Yes!
  • Life’s good, even when we may doubt. Life’s really good, all the time.

FOR SOME FUN

2018: Review of a robust yet contemplative year

2018 was quite a robust year for my husband and I, which saw him returning to full-time employment after being retired for 7 years, and a change in location for us–affording me plenty of time to reconnect with old friends and get into more holistic mischief. LOL

For those who know me, I’m a full-time software analyst (which includes a good amount of writing within the scope of my job), health researcher and writer (because I enjoy feeling good), and blogger / holistic coach on the side (which sometimes includes helping friends out with their WordPress sites). Thus, this is how my year went:

January

My birthday month is usually quiet and slow. Not because it’s cold outside necessarily, as it’s usually warm where we live in Florida.

It’s a month to reflect and set intentions for the new year. And my intention for 2018 was to take it easy, go to less events, spend a month with my daughter and granddaughters up north, and finish my holistic health book.

But life happens.

A good friend of ours who had been battling cancer, and whom we spent New Year’s Day with, along with his wife and a group of friends, passed away just a few days later, on his birthday. My husband and I attended Jon Wimpy’s funeral, and grieved his passing with many of those same friends–folks we had shared drinks and meals with often.

This month, I also attended a celebration of life for a friend’s husband. If this past year taught me anything it was to cherish each moment more than the last. Even the difficult ones.

Continuing to sift through my mother’s personal papers, I found my mom and dad’s laminated newspaper wedding announcement, I once again contemplated the reasons we become upset with ourselves and people.

The following were my takeaway thoughts on the matter (which also prompted a blog article here.)

Self criticism is the opposite of blame. Learn how to diffuse an argument–especially when you care deeply for the other person. Nobody’s perfect, and it’s often harder to see our own flaws.

Talking about yourself, try it before verbally attacking another. Get very conscious before you talk. This can help heal relationships. You can heal your heart and help others heal too.

Tuning into the frequency and meaning on the following words, and expressing them, can powefully help heal and transform a relationship, argument, disagreement, or misunderstanding. Especially because your genuine intention creates your tone. Your tone is what puts forth the vibration.

The following is similar (or the same) as comedian said on our first cruise after we were married:

  • IM SORRY
  • FORGIVE ME
  • I LOVE YOU
  • THANK YOU

Mix and match these in any order to avoid an argument with your loved one.

Other ideas of things to say to diffuse tension, “I’m very emotional. I’m triggered. I’m finding this difficult. I want us to get along.”

Sink into your open / tender heart more with compassion for everyone involded, knowing everyone is doing the best they can.

Having myself been through 2 divorces, and now living happily for almost 14 years in the third, I can tell when living partners are able to move through the Energy of a potentially painful experience with abounding love, humility, and grace. Much love to you, and gentleness as you discover and honor the best and highest aspects of yourselves and each other. OM ❤️🦋🌀

As for January, perhaps it seems slow because people are recuperating from the holidays and embarking on self reflection, new diets, and new exercise programs. But for me, I am simply continuing to eat the same way I’ve been eating and adding more movement.

I had also resolved to take it easy this year, not attend as many health related classes or events, implement what I’ve learned to improve my health, and focus on the completion of my holistic health book. In other words, prioritize. ❤️

February

And then suddenly, I found myself very busy!

We had already booked our first 7 day cruise (we’ve taken 3 and 4 day cruises in the past), and we did that, even though my husband was offered his old job back at Kennedy Space Center.

The cruise was entertaining! But more than the fantastic shows (Cats was incredible!) and scenery of the ports of call (magical Cozumel), were the memories made with family and friends who cruised with us.

After we returned, we searched for a new place to park the RV–on the east coast of Florida.

Knowing I had my plans to spend May in New Hampshire, I spent every non-work waking hour online, searching for a new spot. What made the search less fun was finding that every campground was full until April, mostly since a couple camps had closed due to damage from hurricane Irene in 2017, and the snowbird camping tourists being in Florida.

Hubby had to bunk with friends 4 nights a week until we could have our coach towed across the state when a vacancy was available.

I was blessed to be able to attend two more lectures by Lama Nicholas Packard when he visited St. Petersburg, and also take in some lectures at an indoor mystic festival that Spirit University put on just 5 minutes from where we lived.

In preparing to launch my health book, along with writing my metaphysical book, I began collecting information such as the following from other writers and editors who work in the corporate world, but also have a craving to contribute to the mystical arena:

Shelley Emling, the senior editor of Huff/Post 50, dives into the life of one of these brave female mystics in her forthcoming book, Setting the World on Fire: The Brief, Astonishing Life of St. Catherine of Siena. For Emling, Catherine and other female mystics demonstrate the challenging but empowering task of being guided by a divine force.

March

As has happened each year for the past five years, I took part in the annual outdoor health, yoga, and music festival, Awakening Into The Sun, in downtown St. Petersburg, Florida. 🌞

It was a complete blast!!! Every year it just gets bigger and better! So much fun and energizing!

I abSOULutely loved my role as emcee at this enlightening festival and seeing old friends, along with meeting new vendors. It is always an amazing crazy fun time! And the only thing that makes it better, is looking forward to doing it all again next year!!!

April

We moved our 5th wheel home–and this time, it all sort of happened on short notice while the hubby was at work (to save him the anguish of a Friday night commute home from across the state. The move itself could be a separate story, so suffice to say, we got it done–thankfully with the help of my cousin, Dan, my dad, and my son. Whew!

After getting things unpacked, cleaned, and settled again, I buckled down on my book, enjoyed walking the dock and along the water on my lunch breaks, and prepared to leave town for a month.

May

Because I work from home (which means, I can work remote from anywhere in the U.S.A.), I decided to go to New Hampshire for the month of May, rent a lakeside condo, and be close to my daughter, son-in-law, and glorious granddaughters! My granddaughters are Jennifer (age 7), and Jaclyn & Jewel (the twins, who are almost 2 years of age).

I could write another book about all the fun I had with my girls, but once again, I’ll try to be brief and share some pictures:

Here’s a list of some of the things we got to do together:

After work most weekdays, I got to meet Jennifer at her school bus stop–and everyday except once, she was happy to see me (the one time she was in a sour mood might have been an act though, haha!).

We went to Fun Spot and played lots of games. Marie and Mike carried their twins, Jaclyn and Jewel around the whole huge place in kiddie backpack type things. Too cute!

We got vegan ice cream.

We went to Art Escape and had a grand time painting ceramics.

We watched old cartoons and some new ones as well that the girls don’t normally get to watch.

We did some shopping. And people would ask us if the girls were twins. Duh! Of course! We even took them to the Wild Women’s Studio where much attention was lavished on Jaclyn and Jewel… and grammy bought a priceless steinway… uh, kidding! I bought a beautiful labradorite. Hehe! Yes, us girls do love shiny blue things. 🙂

We got to play in the sand and water several times at the lakeside condo private beach. And write our names in the sand!

We got to play at a couple different parks, as well as in the girls’ backyard.

We had sleepovers. The best! Grammy (me) really enjoyed that, yes even the crying part–Jaclyn didn’t want to go to sleep without her blanket (blanky) the first night. Thankfully, my daughter was a quick text to learn about the blanky stowed in the bottom of their overnight bag!

I also got to spend some time with my granddaughters’ baby cousin, Aria (not pictured). She was super cute–only beginning to crawl then.

At night, after the girls were back home and I was back at my rented lakeside condo, I journaled and talked with loved ones on the phone (a luxury that I rarely do when I’m at home in Florida). I also did more ancestry searching. I stumbled upon grand new insights into my family tree (I’m happy to say).

June

This was the one year mark of my mother’s physical death, and one year anniversary on my job. A lot of things have changed, including my dad considering selling the old Florida home place.

July

My son convinced dad to put the home place up for sale and shock of shocks, a couple days later (on my dad’s birthday), they got an offer. Dad was stunned and called to ask me what I thought. Almost without thinking I told him that I thought it was a sign (from mom), because the offer came on his birthday–and he should sell.

The sale, however, brought up more issues for my dad, (and lots of heavy lifting work for my son), than it did for me.

I had let go of any feelings for the property years ago. Nor, due to my minimalist lifestyle, did I care much about receiving any stuff. When I got mom’s Bible (several months to a year before her physical death), I had been thrilled just to have that!

The sale gave us all the opportunity to really weed through things in their home of nearly 40 years and find a lot of things that mom had kept for even longer.

I found diary letters, death certificate of one of my sister siblings that had died at childbirth, and other important documents. Plus, my son found a couple of rings that were meaningful to me. Mom’s high school ring and birthstone. Oh, how joyous! I love wearing these rings that I had worn for a time when I was younger. I find that jewelry can really bring back a sense of a person.

August

My mother’s birthday in August, brought up another opportunity for me to contemplate her life, and her writing–both in the margins of her Bible and in the diary pages we’ve continued to find of hers (while cleaning out the house where she and my dad lived for nearly 40 years).

Emotionally, I am leaps and bounds where I used to be. Until about 6 years ago, I never thought I could handle “losing” my mom.

I have grieved some, but I amaze myself with how well I feel about my mom’s passing. I am extremely thankful to feel her presence near often and I believe this knowing is also a strong reason why I don’t miss her in the traditional way people miss their loved ones who have died. I simply do not feel that I have “lost” her in that way!

September

I paid my deposit to author (Angel Babies and Soul Explorer), hypnotherapist, and sacred sites explorer extraordinaire, Patricia McGivern, to joyfully travel with her and a group to Scotland, Ireland, and England next year–September 1-13th, 2019–and I’m supremely excited about that!

Do you see the glint of blue light here??? That gives a hint as to why my soul is calling me to go:

This month brought to fruition the book that’s been in the making for 13 years, Take It Upon Yourself to Live a Wholly Vibrant Life. I made it available for online sale and distribution (PDF format)

October

After having researched ASEA Redox and cell signaling molecules for more than two months, I figured it was about time to go to one of the local health meetings and find out more.

I needed to understand as much as I could before meeting the gentleman who had first introduced me to the product and is my upline sponsor. He’s already brought 6 people onto our team (after me), and gently encouraging me (no pressure) to sign up others who are seeking improved health and vitality. More about that here.

In my spare time, I had fun learning about a Divi WordPress theme as I helped a friend update her site. You can check it out here:

http://www.indivinetime.com

I’m a Capricorn. ♑️ And Capricorns are supposedly born leaders who love to make plans and hate mistakes. While I do love a plan, I’m fairly spontaneous. And I do hate to make mistakes in my writing (which is why I’m editing my book again). Ho-hum.

So, this year my granddaughter taught me an important lesson–there are no mistakes in art! LOL And that freed my mind to take a crystal wire wrapping class! I discovered that I love this type of art!

❤️🦋🌀

November

My husband and I had the exceptional treat to attend a Sunday evening metaphysician presentation by a dear friend of ours, Jerry Forney, in Melbourne, Florida.

The presentation called, The Eightfold Path to Health and Wellness, so resonated with me since it was about health and self-care. It covers some of the health and healing aspects in my book–but we can always learn more. There’s so much to know and implement to live a wholly vibrant life!

December

I only buy gifts for the girls and have them shipped up north a month or two before Christmas nowadays, so I’m less of a consumer, and not caught up in the holiday shopping frenzy at all. I’ve found this as an easy way to feel more at peace during the holidays. Overall, it definitely inserts more spirit and ease into the month.

I took a Thai bodywork and Restorative yoga class with a friend one Saturday and wow, it was really an aWEsOMe workout! It highly motivated me to restart my yoga practice. 🦋

After many years of blogging on WordPress, and updating others’ sites, I finally got the hang of ‘scheduling’ my blog posts. This way, I can begin the writing process within the app (instead of in Notes on my iPhone), and put myself on a deadline (or play line?) and build a bit more structure into my blogging timeline–and feel better about accomplishing what I want to get done. I even scheduled this post! Haha! 😉

Wrapping this up:

I continue daily to practice meditation, but only sporadically perform Qigong and Yoga as I’ve returned to the Pilates, dancing, stair-climbing and singing that fill me with JOY.

❤️🦋🌀

In my contemplative practices I continue to embrace a higher and deeper sense of self and spiritual connectivity with our LIMITLESS, Ever-Living, Filling-All-Space, Creator Source Energy God that seems to authenticate the soul-connected version of ME.

I send you all many blessings, in ALL ways for an amazing and expansive 2019!

Happy New Year!

OM.🙏

Downside of medical doctors causes people to seek Integrative Medicine

Downside of medical doctors causes people to seek Integrative Medicine

In my new book, Take It Upon Yourself to Live a Wholly Vibrant Life, I urge people, especially those suffering from chronic ills, to seek the services of an integrative or functional medical doctor if you have to go to one at all. In particular, I advocate for people to seek an integrative physician who has trained in a variety of holistic health protocols and can work in conjunction with (or at least be willing to communicate with) the holistic wellness team that you’ve assembled for yourself. An integrative doctor can prescribe pharmaceutical medications IF you need them, yet also help you navigate the various options available to you. (I present many in my book.)

Personal experience

One of the reasons I wrote a holistic health book was due to the unfortunate suffering my mother endured at the hands of a couple of medical doctors in south Florida in 1994. I’d only heard the stories verbally from her, and it wasn’t until the weekend prior to my publishing this piece that I’d found her letter, which she had hand written detailing her horrid experiences.
I doubt mom’s letters would hold up in court now, though she did sign and date each page (she must have had a lawsuit in mind at the time), however they serve to bolster my opinion that these arrogant people need to learn a lesson or two. And I certainly hope neither are practicing medicine any longer! I believe the two doctors, their assistants and nurses (who mom wrote about) were guilty of medical malpractice due to their harmful and inappropriate treatment of my mother, as documented by her letters (shown in the photos).
Yes, I know these are “hearsay” now, and in the past–since my mother passed away in 2017. Nor would I sue them at this point. But, I want to use my mother’s words of warning as a way to inform people about some of the pitfalls and downside of doctors.
I believe integrative and functional medicine is the way to go from today forward. And whenever food, lifestyle, movement, indeed holistic remedies are not sufficient (which, when done properly, usually are, but one may not have the stamina to follow).
Medical malpractice by a doctor, nurse, pharmacist, radiologist, or dentist is serious. And the law has specified it consists of:
  • Duty of care
  • Violation of applicable standards in care
  • The patient suffered a compensable injury as a result
  • The injury was the direct result of a deviation in the standard of care

Medical doctors as gods

Medical doctors seem to like to play god–a lot, which is also a topic I dissect in my book. Their ridiculous egos and antics go way too far, and indeed break the Hippocratic Oath day after day. I, for one, am tired of it.

I will type the words of my mother’s letters below (as some of the handwriting is difficult to read), I’ll leave out the doctors’ names–but you can see those in the pictures.

IMG_7841.jpg

My first appointment with Dr. X – July 12, 1994: 7 days after starting Herbalife Cellular Nutrition Program – blood pressure 166/104.

My brother in West Virginia advised me not to take this product until after my blood tests! Sadly, I was so anxious to lose that 15 to 20 pounds, as we were planning a trip home in 6 weeks – bad timing. September is when my work picks up–I lost the private job (names unknown to me) on the island – 3 to 4 of my people come in but rarely! This is the pits. I have lost probably $3,000 in work.

The doctor has refused to put me on Hydroduril 50mg, which is the blood pressure medicine I have always taken with NO side effects. He is the most inexperienced, uncaring, untrained doctor I have ever had the misfortune to get stuck with (due to her insurance plan).

For x-rays – blood tests – kids camp physicals, he might be OK. But if you have a complicated illness that requires an attentive, caring, physician with integrity, Christian ethics and true experience, this doctor is the pits.

IMG_7842.jpg

He absolutely insisted on taking a mole off my neck. His nurse said it was a simple procedure – a burn off – never mentioned any surgery or stitches. They got visibly angry when I refused the sigmoidoscopy test and mammogram they wanted to run. They were bound and determined they were going to do some sort of invasive procedure on me.

He sent me to (another doctor) for a Gyn (gynecological) exam and that was a horrible rough – crude doctor – I will never go to him again – his attitude and speech was horrible! He gave me a severely rough breast exam – totally unnecessary and then did a rectal exam that felt like he certainly used something besides his hands.

At this point, if I hadn’t been mad enough already, I was now!

I share this with my readers to beg you, if ANY doctor EVER treats you in this kind of way, mishandles you, or causes you pain and suffering, please speak up, yell, scream, or whatever it takes. Get up and leave immediately! And then contact the medical board, and an attorney! I feel so bad that my mother went through this trauma – even a year after her death, if I could get hold of this doctor… GRRRRR…

Mom’s letter continues:

IMG_7843.jpg

I was so upset by the time I left his office, I felt like I had been raped! He is a HORRIBLE doctor.

Under no circumstances would I want either of these doctors to touch me in an emergency. They acted like they were doing their best to harm me in some way. Both blood pressure medications (doctor’s name) put me on gives me chest pains – cause nausea and constipation.

Constipation has been a problem since the rectal exam by (other doctor) and the tremendous fast weight gain caused by Herbalife has thrown my body into a really bad chemical imbalance.

(Doctor name) is not qualified to give me proper care – he simply is untrained and has an ego or attitude problem. He pays no attention to my  past medical history and the dangerous reactions I have had to drugs.

IMG_7844.jpg

That concerns me and is putting me under stress!

My health is worse since I went to him than it was before. He has not the foggiest notion why my feet are numb! He has made no move to refer me to any specialist. He seems determined to run me up there every 2 weeks or once a month. I just am not going to be subjected to him and his staff belligerent, know it all attitude. They treat me like I don’t know anything. Telling me I am hyperactive – which, I am not! Until I walk into that office.

When he took that mole off he laid me face down on a table where I could not see what he was doing. He spread his instruments out on my BACK. I was shocked! He then dropped an instrument on the FLOOR!! That’s when I should have sat up and got the Hell out of that office.

IMG_7845.jpg

That was not a sterile room! He did not have sterile clothes on nor did this prissy nurse or aide or what ever she was.

She intimidated me into signing a form that I would not sue them if anything went wrong!!

I could see her out of the corner of my eye. (As if she was saying), “I got her (my mother) to sign it!” She was waving this paper at him and he came trotting in! I had the gut feeling (we should always listen to our gut feelings) I had made a huge mistake.

I should have asked him how many of these (moles) he had taken off. I need to become more aggressive in protecting myself.

Medical needs of the highly sensitive person

Like me, my mother was a highly sensitive person–even more than me perhaps, as she was AB Rh negative blood type. And AB blood types in general are highly sensitive to chemicals, medications, and so forth.

I wonder what he charged the insurance company for that? (Note: My mother had worked in insurance years before and understood that part of the equation very well.)

He was shaking like a leaf when he sewed me up (after removing the mole)! He did not even prep me properly! This man is no surgeon. He did a botched up job.

IMG_7846.jpg

My neck hurts constantly – every time I turn it. He told his girl to put me on an antibiotic just in case infection occurred! She reminded him I was on K-flex for an abscessed tooth!

His remark was, “Oh, perfect, perfect.” He had my chart right there, but did not remember that I was allergic to penicillin!

He – nor that girl – nor the dentist – nor the pharmacist were bright enough to know that K-flex, which that dentist had me on, is in the family of penicillin!

Those imbeciles could have killed me! It is a wonder I did not land in the hospital with heart failure (again, as she had in 1968 after losing a baby).

Florida has the worst medical system I have ever seen! They license doctors who have been kicked out of other states, even had patients die here and yet they are still working their poison on the residents of Florida.

IMG_7847.jpg

I just wanted all this down in writing in case something happens to me. I want charges brought against (doctor’s name) and his nurse.

I want the insurance company to do an internal investigation into that office and find out what is going on up there.

That guy is so preoccupied and running so many through there, so fast, he doesn’t even acquaint himself with a patient’s history. I wonder if anyone has died yet under his care.

He is most definitely overcharging for the very little time he is actually with a patient. The last time I was in there, last 2 times, the girls have put me in a patient room and let me sit there for 45 minutes before he comes in – he talks to you 10 to 13 minutes, spends the rest of the time recording his notes on this recorder!

He is an imbecile!! Every time he opens his mouth he proves how stupid he is. He tells me stress is making my (blood) pressure high. That remark itself shows he has no training. My first day in the other doctor’s office, I was scared – nervous and under enough stress it was pathetic.

IMG_7848.jpg

My blood pressure was 126/70 – It has been perfect for the last 3 years.

I have lived under enough stress to kill me ever since the first month I was married!

My blood pressure was not as high in 1968 when I was in heart failure – liver failure – kidney failure because of a Rh negative blood reaction to an Rh positive baby and a severe chemical imbalance. If I had not had fabulous top trained doctors, I would have died!

I wonder how I am going to find a doctor who knows what is wrong with me and get it documented before it’s too late to sue that nut for my medical bills?

I think he put something in my neck I am reacting to – I have headaches! Nauseated, muscle pain clear down in my shoulder. When I lean my head back it feels like something is sticking me.

After reading this, please comment if you’ve experienced anything similar and how you handled it.

I picked the wrong week to quit drinking! (Reaching for some bit of humor here, as I am aware that my anger and upset is not necessary now). Emotion of anger shifting… This is so very sad.

Finding the optimum personalized plan for you: Nutrition Response Testing

The optimum personalized plan of Nutrition Response Testing

For more than three months (as of this writing), I’ve been seeing Dr. Michele Munnich of Absolutely Divine Wellness in Viera-Rockledge, FL as a Nutrition Response Testing client to find the diet and supplements appropriate for me–and it’s working. I’m achieving results!

Personalized medicine

About twenty years ago, I’d read that the best emerging medicine would be customized to each person, and that’s exactly what Nutrition Response Testing is–personalized.

One of the main components of Nutrition Response Testing is muscle testing, which involves using the client’s own body, typically an arm, to act as a feedback loop in order for the doctor to assess your strength or weakness to a particular substance. One by one substances are tested against your body in a way that both you can see and feel, and your doctor can visibly see, what’s good for you.

Muscle testing is not new to me. I’ve had previous chiropractors and naturopaths use it to determine what items I needed to detox from my body or what homeopathic remedies to take, so I was elated to find that Dr. Michele Munnich uses it in conjunction with other “hard science” monitors to analyze your specific situation and put you on a plan to correct any imbalances and encourage your body’s ability to self correct.

If you’d like to watch some videos on nutrition, Nutrition Response Testing, or the Standard Process supplements I’m taking, visit Dr. Michele’s website at:

Absolutely Divine Wellness – Videos

So far, I’ve detoxed from heavy metals such as aluminum and arsenic. Such heavy metals can be ingested from eating contaminated fish/seafood, or even some plants. I’ve learned that Brussels sprouts uptake arsenic and I’ve had to reduce my consumption of them.

Moreover, during the process of testing, Dr. Michele found issues that I had not known I’d had. While writing my new book, I researched these issues and found that when a person is toxic, with a heavy metal toxicity in the body, it can cause the electrical impulses that normally flow, to become disrupted. The heart, endocrine system, and other body systems, glands, organs, and cellular communication can all be put at risk when the body’s electrical system is not working at its optimum.

I went in with only a couple of issues, but I’ve found that just by going in to Dr. Michele’s office weekly and chatting about my food log and having her adjust my supplements (because your body’s needs will change week to week), that this has made me more accountable with my diet and helped me easily release nearly 20 pounds! At first, I’d kind of grumbled about having to go every week, as it’s a bit of a drive for me, but I now see the importance of checking the body’s responses, and soon, I’ll only be going in every two weeks–eventually, it will only be monthly visits.

For me, adhering to a specific diet or way of eating took more than the 21 days you hear people talk about for establishing a habit. I need the longer period of time to integrate and actualize new ways–and I write about the Mind-Body-Spirit-Soul of that in my new book, Take It Upon Yourself to Live a Wholly Vibrant Life. I also include more in the book about my work with Dr. Michele, and all I’ve done in the last 13 years that’s brought me to this point in time in regard to diet. Yes, there are so many to choose from!

As for what makes the Nutrition Response Testing optimum personalized plan? Each week, Dr. Michele actually tests my body with each Standard Process supplement (individually or as a group), along with any other supplement I bring in, to see if my body needs it, and if so, how much. As I wrote in my book, there’s much we can do for ourselves on our own, as we know our own body better than any doctor. However, when it comes to ascertaining proper dosages, it’s advantageous to visit with someone who can check you with muscle testing.

UPDATE: I have nearly completed my one year of Nutrition Response Testing and though my weight has fluctuated (due also to the emotions during the time of my father’s death), I am very happy to have released 20 pounds and several inches from my body.  As well, the issues I went to Dr. Michele about have cleared.

Before you go to a holistic or biologic dentist

As promised, this is the second article in a three-part series that explores biological dentistry.

Got TMJ?

Put your fingers on both sides of your face, at the jaw hinge. Open your mouth wide, and then close.

Do this a few times.

Do you notice one side or the other pops out more than the other? Or do you hear any popping or clicking sounds? Do you have any pain?

If you said yes to any of those questions or ever been told you have TMJ, which may or not be causing you pain, before you go to a holistic or biologic dentist, see Heather Smith in Brandon, Florida for a Structural Energetic Therapy® (SET) session.

I had never thought that I had TMJ, but a holistic dental professional mentioned I did, and had referred me to an Osteopath. What the dentist didn’t know, was that I knew Heather!

I had actually scheduled my appointment with Heather to get her thoughts on the recurring vertigo I had been dealing with, but after reeling from this pronouncement that I had TMJ, I was ecstatic to find she could work on that issue also.

In one 90 minute session, I felt bodily results of this incredible health modality. Amazing!

Contact Heather at: http://www.brandonsetcenter.com

In alphabetical order, the session I had yesterday can help ease many situations of the body:

  • Arthritis
  • Back pain
  • Bulging discs
  • Carpal Tunnel
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Frozen Shoulder
  • Headaches
  • Heel spurs
  • Herniated discs
  • Joint flexibility
  • Lupus
  • Muscle pulls
  • Muscle sprains
  • Muscle strains
  • Neck pain
  • Nerve Entrapments
  • Osteoporosis
  • Scoliosis
  • Shoulder pain
  • Surgical adhesions
  • Surgical scars
  • Temporomandibular Disorder (TMJ)
  • Tendinitis
  • Trigger Finger
  • Whiplash

As for the treatments that a holistic dentist had said I needed, I have put those on hold for the foreseeable future–and my third article on this topic will explain why.

I am a highly sensitive person (HSP), and believe that some dentists (yes, even those who claim to be holistic), do not understand how to communicate with HSPs.

In the spirit of education about HSP people, I therefore recommend the movie, Sensitive (with Alanis Morrissette) on Gaia. Watch it online here:

If you  previously read my article, Good-Gums Tooth Powder Instead of Toothpaste, then you know I recommend Good-Gums tooth powder instead of fluoride toothpaste for brushing your teeth. From the Good-Gums blog, I found this excellent resource on how to find a good dentist:

As well, check out this all natural tooth brush that Robyn Openshaw recommends:

I have also watched a compelling video on YouTube about the dental profession. To say that it was eye-opening is putting it mildly. Come to find out, dentistry is more of an art than a science. No wonder I’ve had so many different opinions about my teeth over the last 8 years (from having moved around due to job changes). See for yourself:
