26 seconds to get under your skin

Did you know that it only takes 26 seconds for the chemicals in your personal care products to enter your bloodstream?

Well, if man-made chemicals can get in (and that fast), I would rather skip them and their side effects and opt for natural options, like essential oils!

Shingles

I wrote this answer to a friend who was diagnosed with shingles after getting vaccinated “against” shingles:

I had a mild case of shingles years ago too (as diagnosed by my skin cancer dermatologist doc). The cure? For me, it was eating raw vegan for a few months!

I juiced and ate raw fruits, vegetables, sprouts, seeds, and nuts. I bought recipe books and watched raw vegan videos and even attended raw vegan meetup group potlucks and took uncooking classes with a raw vegan chef! It was an amazing journey.

When I went back for a recheck my dermatologist doc was shocked! But he didn’t even want to know how I healed myself. His last words to me were, “call us if you need us again.” And I’ve never been back!

That’s been over a decade ago. Prior to that, his office had me going in every year for a cancer screening check.

Skin tags, moles, and warts

A person had a large wart on the bottom of one toe that refused to disappear despite repeated applications of Melaleuca alone.

A mix of Eucalyptus, Melaleuca alternifolia, Lavender, Thieves, and Frankincense was used and the stubborn wart disappeared in less than a week.

I typically apply Frankincense or Tea Tree (Melaleuca alternifolia) oil to a skin tag or mole, daily for a week or two, and watch as the mole dries up and disappears.

For skin tags, I give them a quarter turn each day in the same direction until they fall off. And what’s really cool is—there’s no scar!

Comparatively, I have a white scar where a dermatologist froze off a large (and deep) mole on my belly—15 years ago! (It was tested and found to be benign too.)

Complexion Issues

When one gets white dry patches on the face, try Melaleuca alternifolia oil, or tea tree.

Knee Injury

After a severe meniscus tear (knee injury) the pain never stopped. A person had been taking heavy duty pain meds for two years. Then started using Wintergreen & Cypress and had immediate relief, applied to the knees about 4-5 times per day.

Additionally, the person took Young Living’s NingXia Red 2oz per day, Sulfurzyme 4 caps per day, and BLM 4 caps per day and after 6 weeks, the pain was gone and the person didn’t have to use the oils. That was three years ago.

As for me, I did one 10 minute session of Pranayama breathing as my knee pain left completely. That’s been about 5 years ago!

Muscle Spasms

I keep a bottle of Basil essential oil on my bedside table. When I get leg cramps, muscle spasms in my legs, it’s quick relief!

Basil essential oil also soothes sciatica pain.

A few drops massaged into the skin seems to do the trick.

Post Surgery Pain

Use 20 drops Valerian, 10 drops of Helichrysum, 3 drops of Clove & 3 drops of Peppermint placed in 2 size “00” empty vegecaps. Essential oil recipe by Gary Young.

Little things add up to stay healthy

What I’ve been doing since (or before February 2020 to stay healthy (your results may vary):

  • Align spirit and soul
  • Practice self care: mind and body
  • Practice meditation
  • Practice mindfulness
  • Do a GRATITUDE ritual every morning
  • Say a heartfelt “Thank you” to people and things in my environment (telling someone they’re wonderful is aWEsOMe too!)
  • Consume 4 ounces of a certain redox signaling molecules liquid daily (3+ years)
  • Consume Vitamin C, Vitamin D3, B vitamins, Zinc
  • Practice intermittent fasting (IF)
  • Heal my gut issues (thanks to Paleovalley)

  • Use self acupressure (nightly routine to beat the nighttime snacking habit and kick it to the curb!)
  • Hug my husband
  • Hug my son, his girlfriend, and our neighbors
  • Strengthen bonds with friends
  • Stay busy, but take time to rest and relax
  • Be “Present” MORE
  • Bring my WHOLE self into my work
  • Learn new things (Living “Off Grid” has been quite challenging!)
  • Take cold showers (thanks to Wim Hof and our new “Off Grid” pioneer-like lifestyle)
  • Released the COVID lockdown weight (thanks to the Omada program and Primal Life Organics weight loss supplements!)

Mood

Yes, I had gained 20 pounds in 3 months due to being stressed and depressed—mood can trigger all kinds of hormonal changes… plus, all the self sabotaging-thoughts like, “we’re all gonna die, so I’ll eat what I want” that seem to crop up when all you hear is doom and freaking gloom crap! But, thankfully, when I got my head back on straight, I released all 20 pounds in about 4.5 months.

For those who have trouble meditating

Do you have trouble meditating?

There is this one little physical thing you can do (that a massage therapist taught me years ago), when you are wanting to meditate, but feel that you can’t because your mind is racing.

I learned this one move, and have taught it to many other since, that helped me in the beginning when I couldn’t seem to meditate because my mind was always ON.

Try the following procedure and let me know if it helps.

Trouble meditating?

The procedure

Start by closing your eyes and rubbing two fingers (of each hand), up the bridge of both sides of your nose, and while maintaining the same pressure, move your fingers over and above your eye brows to make circles around yours eyes.

You can do this several times, and even go in reverse circles, lightening the pressure as you go.

As you notice your thoughts slowing down, you can stop this motion and relax your hands to your sides and then simply focus on your breathing.

The outcome

This one move really can ease the mind racing or mind chatter, especially when one begins learning meditation. Namaste. OM ❤️🦋🌀

Immune health is interconnected

The gut health and chronic dis-ease connection

More is coming to light about the way our guts are related to the health of our immune systems. It’s becoming increasingly important for us to learn how to assist our body’s innate immunity, to benefit from good health.

Our gut (our intestines that make up the microbiome) has quickly become one of the most interesting and engaging topics in medicine. Researchers are exploring the powerful interconnection between human health and the vast ecosystem of bacteria, fungi, protozoa, and viruses living quietly inside. When this ecosystem is out of balance, it can set one up to experience chronic diseases. Such dis-ease might include: auto-immune issues, diabetes, heart disease, mood disorders, and obesity.

Scientific research now shows that people who have a more diverse gut microbiome have stronger immune systems. When we lack microbial diversity, our immune system suffers. As our immune systems weaken, chronic dis-eases like: autism, insulin resistance, colorectal cancer, Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, celiac disease, multiple sclerosis, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), and more can set in.

Cancer

In a research study of about 78,000 men and women without any previous history of cancer or diabetes, a significant number of those who consumed high amounts of sugar over a 7 year timeframe developed pancreatic cancer. The study research stated, “The consumption of added sugar, soft drinks and sweetened fruit soups or stewed fruit was positively associated with the risk of pancreatic cancer.”

Studies show cancer cells rely on sugar to function. Thus, your cancer risk goes up when you consume sugar. The mitochondria of cancer cells thrive on sugar and don’t burn other fuel as effectively.

Diabetes

Foods such as: cinnamon, gymnema sylvestre, and turmeric are especially helpful as anti-diabetic agents. Thus, it may be prudent to add these foods to your diet often.

Obesity

Our brain, gut, and hormones think we need to store more fat than we need. Obese people have an elevated “set-point weight”, otherwise known as hormonal dysregulation. This means that our body thinks we need more food, yet we have too much.

An overweight person can get a fecal implant from a thin person and become thin, by resetting their weight set-point.

Hormonally helpful foods can ease the body to reduce its set-point weight. A microbiome test can provide results to include a list of these foods.

Toss and turn? Can’t sleep through the night? All-natural sleep aid provides relief!

Do you toss and turn quite a bit at night before you eventually fall asleep? Do you feel like you have to think through a million thoughts before you can wind down?

Millions of people seem to experience frequent bouts of insomnia or other sleep pattern disruptions. Our busy and stress-filled lifestyle is no doubt most of the reason. In our fast-paced, ever-changing, interconnected world, we are surrounded – nearly at all times – by stressful people, places, and things:

Environmental stress: Are you overwhelmed? Do you feel you have more information coming to you than your brain can process at any one time? When you feel overwhelmed, or overloaded, it means your emotions can’t quite keep up to speed with all the life stuff as it happens, which can cause you to be more frustrated, reactive, impatient, worried, and/or irritable. This mental stress takes a big toll on us. This has all been said before though, by many people. When our lack of sleep begins to effect us in evident ways, only then, does it seem, we take action.

Stimulation Fatigue: We know we’ve got to get a certain amount of things done daily though, such as get the kids to school, do our work tasks, care for loved ones, and so on. To attempt to maintain, we often find ourselves reaching for caffeine or other stimulants to stem the tide of our mental/emotional fatigue and sleep deprivation. This can eventually lead to stimulation fatigue (or adrenal burnout).

When your adrenal glands take a hit, mental/emotional stress can’t be released easily by the body, thus leading to the disruption of our hormonal and sleep rhythms (circadian rhythms). There are natural remedies we can take to help us get more rest, deeper sleep, and wake up refreshed!

Maybe you’ve tried all the tips and tricks to ease yourself into sleep, but none seem to help (because there’s really more going on inside your body than you know). Perhaps some nights the following sleep tips provide a little relief, but not on a consistent basis:

  • Turn off all of the lights, television, smart phone, electronic devices, etc. at least an hour before bedtime
  • Smell some lavender or other calming essential oil before you lay down
  • Drink chamomile tea, warm milk, or other soothing non-caffeinated, non-alcohol drink
  • Make the bedroom comfortable and cool
  • Install sound dampeners to block outside noises
  • Run a fan, or other white noise type of appliance (that does not have any distracting lights on it)
  • Don’t eat, smoke, or exercise just prior to bedtime
  • Meditate or use emotional freedom technique (EFT / Tapping) to ease any stressful thoughts from your day

Okay, so you’ve tried all of the preceding ideas (or found some of them impossible), yet you still need some kind of help.

When we miss sleep it affects us in different ways, often in some not so good ways.
