Working out at home!

So, after working out for 12 sessions with a personal trainer, Michael Slotin, I figured out several ways to get my workouts done at home. Good thing too, because we’ll be moving in a few weeks and I will lose my “in person” access to my trainer anyway.

Lifting 200 pounds!

Plus, after visiting another gym, I am not comfortable going to a place full of fit people or highly muscular types. I know how that sounds, and while I am sure they are all wonderful and nice people, I am in my late 50s and don’t feel like I connect. Please feel free to comment and help me improve my mindset about that, as I don’t want to think age limits any of us!

Anyway, here’s the list I have put together for my home workouts, and maybe it will help someone else too!

The list

Remember to speak (verbally or mentally) to the body while working out because the cells listen to us. Also, visualize the movements and outcome you desire pre-workout.
Use Energy Medicine techniques first, to prepare the body for movement.

Walking (swing the arms with the elbow bent)

Yoga

Qigong

Yamuna stretching

Calf raises on a stair or other solid and stable object

Leg curls laying with belly on the floor while wearing ankle weights and gripping resistance bands (though I was up to 160 lbs of weight for these on the MedX machine and I doubt I could find ankle weights of that weight! Haha!)

Leg extensions using Pilates techniques while wearing the same ankle weights and holding a resistance band, though again, I was up to 200 lbs for this exercise on the MedX machine. As an alternate way to get this leg work in, a timed slow standing squat, counting to 10 on the way up, and counting to 5 on the way down for 2 minutes is working well for me!

Standing hamstring stretch by crossing the feet and bending at the waist til head reaches the front knee. Place chair in front for balance. Keep knees straight.

Standing thigh stretch holding each foot (one at a time) with the same hand (right hand on the right foot) and pulsing back 10 times while standing by our kitchen island for balance support.

Figure 8 thigh raises to loosen hips and increase hip flexibility.

Tricep and bicep arm work using 20 pound weight dumbbells.

Inner thigh squeezes, seated, with one Yamuna ball between the knees.

Inner arm squeezes using one Yamuna ball between elbows.

Crunches on my back while squeezing both Yamuna balls between knees and elbows.

Hip raises while lying on back on the floor.

Note: Squeeze the pelvic floor muscles while lifting any weights and doing the hip raises.

Timing

Lift weights up to the point of muscle exhaustion every other day (for the same muscle), so as not to overtrain.

Will continuous participation in physical activities promote longevity?
Regular exercise will slow the aging process down without spending much money. A good exercise program you follow regularly is one of the best ways to lose weight, reduce muscle loss, spare bone density, and prevent or slow any form of heart and cholesterol-related disease.

Recovery

Drink 2 ounces of ASEA post workout to aid faster muscle recovery, improve performance, and reduce soreness.

Drink plenty of pure water after working out. Aim for half your body weight in total ounces of pure water, (or unsweetened tea or clear broth) each day to flush fat and toxins from the body. Remember, that there’s water in fresh raw vegetables too!

And get at least 7-8 hours of sleep.

Dental advice for vibrant health and bright smiles

As promised, this is the third article in a three-part series that explores biological dentistry.

Learning about some aspects of modern dentistry was disturbing, like how much tooth enamel and dentin most dentists drill away unnecessarily when prepping a tooth for a crown! CrAzY!

As well, one of the most exciting whole health advances I’ve heard about is the idea of brushing one’s teeth with mud! Okay, it’s actually clay to be accurate, but the word mud seems more shocking. Haha!

One of the things I love about this amazing toothbrush is how tiny the bristles are (they reach into spaces that my other toothbrush can’t), and it vibrates the gums and teeth, which on a metaphysical level, I believe, rejuvenates all.

While brushing, I think about all the little dental tubules within my teeth. You could try that too! We can send thoughts of love and care to our teeth (sort of dentin affirmations, if you will) while brushing.

Now, after freaking out about my natural teeth turning gray, I was in a rush to figure something out. I had nightmares of my teeth falling out in little piles!

Another aid that I have used is my red light tool by Photonic Health. I only thought to shine this healing light on my teeth and gums, after visiting the holistic dentist and not resonating with the treatment plan she had in mind for me, so I am excited to watch the improvements in the weeks and months ahead.

Finally, know that there’s no one panacea to keep your mouth biome, teeth, and gums healthy. This dental healing journey will take time and effort, but the rewards of less time in a dental chair, vibrant smile, and good ability to chew into later years, are so worth it.

In my next article, I’ll break down the steps I took to finally, loud drum roll here, beat the nearly two year battle I’ve had with an entrenched (that was the doctor’s word for it) fungal infection. Hint: the clay toothpowder / dental mud played a critical role!

Our body is intricately connected. I learned the hard way that preventing tooth decay is so worth the time, energy, and focus. I had to eventually practice more self discipline to remineralize my teeth, which thankfully, also balanced my gut bacteria!

Health benefits of liquid supplements

In my new book, Take It Upon Yourself to Live a Wholly Vibrant Life, I offer information on myriad holistic health and wellness modalities to those suffering from chronic ills.
When I visited OMercado (written about here), I saw a product in a big blue bottle on the shelf, but as I had just started on a program, I didn’t want to add any other new supplement, so I left the store without inquiring about it.
About a month later, I got an email from a gentleman who had read my OMercado article and asked if I was familiar with the product. Yes, that blue bottle I’d seen at the store was the liquid (revolutionary salt water molecules) supplement–and no, I had never heard of it before.
This gentleman and I talked for a couple of months, while I researched the molecules and cell signaling in general. Mostly though, I had wanted to give the nutritional program I was on, a chance to show results, before trying any other new product.

Trying the supplement

About three months after first talking with my sponsor, Ken “Zeke” Liles (a 31 year Navy veteran), I became intrigued enough to try the liquid product. I’d attended a Thursday night health meeting where they freely offered me a way to try it by applying the gel version topically (which delivers the molecules through the skin). To be clear, the gel contains the same cell signaling molecules that the liquid contains.
I was astounded how much I could feel after only one application of the gel! As well, I was given two more small dabs of the gel (in my hand–about five minutes apart), so I could continue applying more of it on my sore neck.
I was so amazed at the speed at which I could feel this product working! The gel definitely had something going on because it penetrated my skin so fast, and energized my system.

I signed up!

I was so excited about what I was feeling from the gel, I signed up to represent the company and this incredible supplement that night! I didn’t need to wait for weeks to see what additional benefits I would experience. I knew this was bigger, better, and completely different than any other supplement I had used. Plus, and for some of us in product sales — there was no pressure, no sell tactics, nothing. I actually had to ASK to sign up as an associate. That’s a huge difference between this company and other direct sales or multi-level marketing companies I’ve worked with in the past.
At that time, I was wrapping up the writing of my holistic health book, so I only made a brief mention of this product in it. But, I outlined why I needed the gel.

My first article

This article is really the most in depth information I have given anyone about my experience with this revolutionary product. I’m still experimenting with the product line also, and believe this will be a series of articles as I see and feel additional effects.
When my big box of four blue bottles arrived on our RV steps, I immediately began consuming the liquid and giving it to my husband. My hubby had returned to work after being retired for 7 years. He’d been coming home complaining each day of muscle soreness and back pain–so much so, that I’d insisted on taking him to my chiropractor!

I can’t speak for my hubby, but after drinking the supplement daily (2 ounces in the morning and 2 ounces in the evening), I haven’t heard him complain about his back–and this is one of the main benefits that I’ve read athletes who take this product tout.
UPDATE: Feb. 2019 my husband increased his intake to 8 ounces a day (4 ounces in the morning and 4 ounces in the evening).

As explained in my book and also in a previous post, I had been integrating nutritional supplements into my daily routine and experiencing improved sleep, and vitality. However, I had felt there was more that I could do. And I was still dealing with a rash that would not seem to clear–no matter what.
Therefore, I’d mainly joined the company in order to buy wholesale. I didn’t really join in order to build a business. But that all changed when I realized my team was growing week by week–through no effort at all on my part. I hadn’t even written a blog article about it!
About two weeks after I’d been taking , I noticed that I was clearing a lot of mucus from my sinuses. Much more than I had cleared any other way, save it be when I used my neti-pot. This caused me to look further into how this supplement was detoxifying my body.
Typically, when I am doing a detoxification (dietary detox) protocol, I also fast (as I’m a big fan of intermittent fasting) and undergo colon hydrotherapy to rest and restore the GI tract and clear the body’s elimination pathways.

Thus, I am thrilled when a product comes along that hastens the detoxification process along in my body, and this is one such product. I believe the liquid supplement has hastened my detoxification, in fact, I created a t-shirt to wear to publicize this idea:

Full transparency – initial results

Now, full transparency here. I’ll tell you the good, bad, or ugly of my experience, not only the up side as I really do not believe any one product, food, or supplement is a panacea for everything that ails us.
If you have amalgam fillings, crowns, or bridges in your mouth, and if you’ve been brushing your teeth WITH hydrogen peroxide (like I had been doing for a couple of months before trying this), you may not want to hold the liquid in your mouth or swish before swallowing. This is because the hydrogen peroxide AND the supplement do something that nobody else who has taken it has ever experienced! My natural teeth turned gray! Thankfully, the result was temporary though!I’m glad it happened though because the experience caused me to do some more research, which led me to Trina Felber’s Dirty Mouth Toothpowder! Woo-hoo!

When I noticed that my lower teeth had turned the same gray color as my two upper front teeth, I took the full mouth picture.
Mostly, I’d only realized that my teeth had discolored after I’d done a Facebook Live at a local festival and just happened to catch myself before turning the camera around. Ugh! I was so embarrassed (but I got over it enough to share it with you here):

After that, I quit holding the supplement in my mouth when I consumed it. But, I didn’t know that the cause of all this had actually been the hydrogen peroxide that I’d been brushing with! I only discovered that from watching a Facebook Live of Trina Felber where she explained the science (almost a year later–yes, I just updated this post on Sept 10, 2019)!

Between the Dirty Mouth Toothpowder and the supplement, I have hope now, that I can keep the few natural teeth I have left in my mouth. Talk about a silver lining to the story! #NoMoreHydrogenPeroxide #DirtyMouthToothpowder

Natural beauty product review: annmarie Aloe Herb Cleanser and Anti-Aging Eye Cream

A couple of months ago, I purchased a couple of full size, natural skin products from annmarie.

You see, I’d been happily using Andalou Naturals’ facial cleansing foam, “1000 Roses” for several years. However, recently, I’d not been able to find it on the various health food store shelves (nor in any of the organic type food store shelves). Thus, I decided to give the annmarie product line a try.

I’d had kept the annmarie products in mind to try (whenever I ran out of the cleanser I’d been using) because the annmarie line doesn’t contain any of the chemicals I avoid. As well, annmarie had been very generous to us this past March, by donating a glorious gift basket of sample products for a raffle at our Awakening Into The Sun health and wellness festival in St. Petersburg, Florida!

There’s quite a difference in price and size of the two products, but I decided to toss those differences aside, and support a small, family run business.

As for using the annmarie Aloe Herb Cleanser:

The largest and most stand-out difference, was in the application of the annmarie product. The texture between the cleansing foam I had been using and the creamy lotion-like consistency of the annmarie Aloe Herb Cleanser was a huge change for me! But, I stayed true to the course, and within a week or so, I the Aloe Herb Cleanser won me over.

Next, I had always loved the smell of roses when I washed my face with the Andalou 1000 Roses foam, but, as you can probably guess, the scent of the annmarie Aloe Herb Cleanser became just as enticing. It’s light and a bit garden-like. I began thinking of not only my grandmother’s rose bushes when I washed my face, but now, her whole garden! And to me, the thoughts that I’m thinking while I’m washing (or doing any task for that matter), mean as much or more as whatever it is that I’m doing!

As for how much I’m using, I’d always used one pump of the Andalou foam, so at first, I used one pump of the Aloe Herb Cleanser. Over time, however, I’ve increased to using two pumps of the Aloe Herb Cleanser. I’m not sure why, it just feels like I need more. Perhaps, I’m enjoying the luxury of it more. I believe I’m also taking a bit longer while washing my face–perhaps because I am caught up in all of the aforementioned thoughts! Haha!

As for results, I’m noticing my skin has improved some, though, remember, our skin changes every day–any typically, not for the better. So, as we age, I’d expect anyone’s skin to age also. So, for me to see any visible improvement is a big payoff!

While I do believe in and practice, facial massage and exercise, I think I’ve switched from performing those little rituals after my shower, to doing most, in the shower–because of using the Aloe Herb Cleanser. This is because the lotion-like consistency of it lasts longer than the foam did.

As for the annmarie Anti-Aging Eye Cream, I definitely recommend it! I’d not been using anything for my eyes on a regular basis prior to purchasing this eye cream, so it’s probably pretty straight-forward to me to notice an improvement by using it. Thus, this is why I focused on the cleansing for this article, versus the eye cream.

Like the Aloe Herb Cleanser, the annmarie Anti-Aging Eye Cream has a rich, creamy feel to it; it smells wonderful with a light, pleasant scent. And the pump applicator top allows one to get as tiny of an amount as you’d like–and I use it sparingly.

So, both thumbs way UP for these two natural skin-care products from annmarie. I’ll be a repeat customer!

Oh, snap! Natural Health and Wellness is big business

In 2005, when I began writing a holistic, natural health and wellness book, I set a Google alert for simply, “natural health and wellness.” And I’d get an email from the alert every few days with one or two results.

But yesterday, I realized the email often contains twenty or more results!

In the years I’ve been writing my book (and blog articles because everything changes so fast), the industry has taken off in a big way–and I’m seeing an even larger market for my book–it’s always been needed, but I didn’t think many people would be ready for it.

I am sure one of the reasons that I’ve lagged in finishing my book was due to a kind of lackluster interest. I mean, I’d talk with people about holistic health and they’d look at me like I had three eyes. Okay, I have a third eye–that has opened up in the last five years–but that’s another post for another day.

I’d try to give family or friends advice about the alternative treatments I’d been getting, the healthy organic food and clothing options, or herbal and homeopathic remedies for colds and flu, etc. Yet, most of my attempts to help were often frowned upon, sometimes I’d even be scolded! I learned to only offer suggestions when asked. And that asking wasn’t happening with any regular frequency, so I kinda gave up.

I threw my hands in the air and decided to let them spend their money on outrageously priced health insurance premiums and co-pays. After all, it was their choice.

I sat by while family and friends underwent painful medical procedures.

I read emails and Facebook posts from them. I did the best I could to remain compassionate and loving. But, I knew deep down, I had an understanding that could help, if they’d only listen.

And then today, something happened. I caught a glimmer of hope!

Awareness is E-X-P-A-N-D-I-N-G… for the general populace–about all kinds of things!

With the boomers talking about anti-aging (and how chemically-laden skin care costs a small fortune), solar energy getting easier to acquire and afford, the buzz words of green, eco-friendly, and sustainable being used all the more, the list of chronic ills growing larger by the minute (with obesity, diabetes, and heart disease seeming to lead the way), more people (college age or boomers) living in “tiny houses” or RVs full-time to downsize, live simply ,and save money, the March against Monsanto movement gaining a strong foothold (due to the multitude of bees dying), National Geographic highlighting the massive deforestation that’s been going on for some time–for all these reasons and more–masses of people are waking up!

And many of these awake and aware folks are now looking for natural health and wellness options to ease the rising tidal wave of humongous healthcare costs–better late than never in my humble opinion!

So, among other things on my daily alert, I found such things as articles on collagen peptides as a non-surgical solution to reduce facial wrinkles, how to throw a healthy dinner party, natural health trends, how many companies now make tea tree essential oil, whole body healing products like mats and pillows, and of course the latest in nutricosmetics–yes, I’d heard of nutriceuticals a few years ago and have written blog articles about some, but nutricosmetics made from natural elements was a new term for me!

When Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), Jin Shin Jyutsu, and my 660nm red light therapy go mainstream, I’ll really hoot and holler!

I mean, natural health modalities of detoxification, organic food, physical therapy, hypnosis, yoga, meditation, Pilates, acupuncture, chiropractic, massage therapy, Kinesiology, colon hydrotherapy, and essential oils are fairly common now, with insurance covering acupuncture, chiropractic, and massage therapy for certain situations.

However, it may still take some time for raw vegan food, Reflexology, the Energy medicine modalities like Theta healing, Healing Touch, Reiki, Pranic healing, past life regression, and Pranayama breathing techniques to be accepted. And other more hands on or physical approaches to wellness of Feldenkrais, Cranio-Sacral, Tai Chi, Qigong, Yamuna, herbal and Bach flower remedies, biofeedback, oxygen, chelation, and stem cell therapies to become commonplace.

Note: March 21st, 2018 The Tomah, Wisconsin VA center is offering a new Tai Chi class to help veterans find relief! Yay!!

There really are (gasp–apparently), lots of people like me out there in the world who care about all this natural stuff! Haha! Yay, finally!

I knew I’d been able to buy a lot more organic food (produce, canned, and frozen items) at our local–non-health food type–grocery store, which has been especially time-saving! But, what I hadn’t realized was just how the whole “get healthy naturally” idea has blossomed!

Someday soon it seems, I may be able to buy some of the cottage industry clothing, skin care, organic recipe ingredients, and so on from our local grocery store. For now, I’ll continue to support (in alphabetical order):

Many teachers can show you, yet your vitality and vibrant life depends on what you practice daily

If you’ve been reading my blog for any length of time, you’ve come to know that there are many teachers, and many ways of living, that can help you prevent dis-ease and assist you in living a long and vibrant life.

Let’s look at those teachers again. And the practices that go well beyond food.

We all know people who can live to be almost any age, by eating white cake everyday, which as much as that exasperates me, also proves that all the cells of your body are LISTENING to you, your beliefs, your words, and the environment you place them in.

We don’t know if people are happy, think positive and hopeful thoughts, or not, but we can see the effects of their thoughts, happy people who laugh and joke, but eat the worst diets, smoke, drink alcohol, and so on–yet seemingly live fairly well.

Then there are those who fall over with a heart attack while jogging. Maybe they were sad, angry, resentful, or suffering from an aching heart.

Sometimes, it just makes no sense. And there seems to be no rhyme or reason to why some people live long lives and others die young.

There are many different schools of thought about a variety of subjects. And who gets to be the one authority on any one topic anyway?

So, this list includes everyone in my circle who promote exercise, healthy eating habits, and mindful practices (yes, some religious / spiritual, though I realize people who claim to be atheists, can also live long and healthy lives).

Who do you follow? What are your daily practices? Do they make you FEEL good when you do them? If so, I think you’re probably on a pretty good path for yourself. I am not here to judge.

I heard it said that the best exercise is the one you’ll DO! And that has proven to be true in my experience. I love the benefits of walking, Qigong, Pilates, Yamuna, yoga, deep breathing, and singing, so I continue to practice these.

I am here, as my mother was for me (in my younger years), to give you the benefit of helpful people and things that I’ve found. But my way does not have to be your way.

If you saw what I eat on a daily basis, you’d think I’d be thin, or at the very least of a “normal” weight, but I struggle with the extra 60-80 pounds I put on during a traumatic time of my life.

I lose 20-30 pounds for awhile, then slowly put it back on. I’ve paid thousands of dollars for diet books, classes, enzyme supplements, colonics, cleansing teas, doctor sponsored diet plans, and on and on, but I have not yet (I have hope) found one that really, truly, works for me. I even use EFT, Jin Shin Jyutsu, prayer, acupuncture, acupressure, reflexology, meditation, and so on also, to release the mental struggle in order to try to return to my pre-age 35 weight. But alas, I continue to seek to find a way back to my whole and healthy weight. I’ve even “let go” of the “trying to’s” and that seems to allow more weight to creep back on!

Here’s an example of one of my lunches (that I eat most weekdays, as most weekends I skip lunch in favor of a Greek egg omelet):

  • 4 Romaine lettuce leaves
  • Big slice of raw onion
  • 1/2 raw squash (or zucchini)
  • 2 or 3 slices of roasted turkey breast (optional)

Dressing:

  • 1 T Garlic
  • 1/2 t garlic powder
  • 1/4 t cajun or creole seasoning
  • Walnut and Olive oil
  • Dash of sea salt to taste

So, I am just a regular gal, hoping to connect you with some things, or people, who will assist you to be the person you want to be. I am a Connector. Don’t look to me to be perfect. True art only finds and honors the imperfection anyway. If life were perfect and everyone was the same, it would be boring. Embrace the drama–just a little bit, and use it to make better, consistently joyous choices. That’s about as good as it gets.

2016: Review of a productive and enlightening year!

The year of 2016 has been a banner year of self discovery for me!! What a whirlwind of knowledge and experiential learning–and this is my review of such a productive and enlightening year:

After having completed Dr. Alison J Kay’s teleseries which had begun in Dec 2015, but wrapped up in January 2016–see more about that here, I believe it certainly set me up for quite a fantastic 2016! And I highly recommend Alison’s courses to everyone–especially if you want to have a banner year!

I began volunteering in January/February at Awakening Wellness center. I so loved meeting so many people there and being off service. Just the energy of being in a wellness center, where people could come for sessions and I could learn how to help, was such a joy! My heart warmed with each and every connection.

During this time, I met my naturopath and was urged to go back to a diet my husband and I had tried, but had given up years earlier–Dr. D’Adamo’s Eat Right 4 Your Blood Type. Two days after changing my diet, the stiffness in my ankles disappeared! Over the next few weeks I could think more clearly. As the months went on it became easier and easier to avoid the foods that Dr. Peter J. D’Adamo tells me are toxic to my body.

Then in February, I took Rev. Michael Beckwith’s six-week Master class online with Mind Valley. (Cost: About $300) I wrote a blog article especially about the program here.

The following is a brief summary of what I learned:

  • I learned and implemented the following thought: I cannot stop birds from flying around my head, but I can prevent them from nesting in my hair.
  • Affirmative and agenda-less prayer and meditation can always shift me back into Gratitude.
  • Faith, only as small as the size of a mustard seed, is all it takes to move the proverbial mountains in our life. Really.
  • Stay my attention on the changeless reality of my inner self, don’t look to the external world for fulfillment.
  • Silently converse with my own heart, commune with joy in my heart.

Meditate or affirm in prayer: I renounce any sense of being bound by personal history, habit, experience, or circumstance. I’m free as spirit is free.

 

In March, I volunteered and had the ultimate privilege to greet every vendor as they were setting up at our huge Awakening Into The Sun (a Zen festival) in downtown St. Petersburg. I had the utter joy of bringing in two vendors to the event too! Emily Stein and the Breakthrough group.

Throughout the two day event, I kept checking in with them–’cause that’s how I roll! I always want to ensure everyone’s ease and happiness while they’re at this fantastic event. We also bought concert tickets for, and attended, the Awakening pre-show. Both my husband and I immensely enjoyed the entertainers! They were all aWEsOMe!

Emily Stein (whom my husband and I took a class with) was one of the Awakening Into The Sun vendors. And I got to meet Emily’s mom! I love these powerful ladies! Such vibrancy! Beautiful spirits! I’m looking forward to spending more time with them in 2017.

Also that month, my daughter experienced a miscarriage. It was gut-wrenching. And since I’ve never been through it, I was truly at a loss for words. I felt helpless, without any way to offer her comfort. And since I had also signed up for, and was in the beginning of an eight-week class, though I wanted to grab a flight to New Hampshire to hug my daughter, I couldn’t get there until May. To ease the gap, and also to help my daughter in any small way that I could, I remembered that a friend of mine and hypnotherapist, had written a book on the subject of miscarriage. And it’s not a subject that very many people talk about!

So, I bought both of us a copy of Angel Babies and we read it together (via distance) and I believe that helped (at least a little bit) to ease my daughter’s mind, as well as, help myself–as the grandmother–to release my sad emotions and also feel and somehow relate a bit more to my mother’s feelings of loss–as she had lost five babies (my unborn siblings) when I was a child. As for that eight-week voice / energy class, I was able to continue, and I am sure it helped me too (to ease the sadness I was feeling for my daughter) with the Breakthrough Performance Workshop — and it did turn out to be a phenomenal experience!

Every week our little group of would-be singers were given a song to sing, sometimes a song we’d never heard of, and we would break through any mental barriers, stretch our voice, find our courage, and build our confidence by practicing the song at home, and then in front of the group at our next practice. Eventually, we videoed each other and learned what we liked, or didn’t like about each performance to build our stamina, poise, and performance ability.

When the night of our concert finally came, even with a pulled neck (which was my silly fault for trying to get into a way too tight garment) I got to do something I’d always dreamed of–to sing a solo with a live band! (Cost: $1200 plus)

After all of this amazing work, you must know how strong I was feeling, emotionally and physically. I’d been doing Pilates for about a year at this point, so on April 21 when I tripped over an ill placed box of printer paper, it really jolted me. I thought, “oh no, now here we go” and figured I might have really hurt one of my wrists, which I had landed on with nearly all of my body weight. But, to my joy and surprise, I didn’t break any bones and I healed quite quickly–only needed a couple of massages by my friend Tiffiny, and one acupuncture treatment. On May 5th, I was blessed to spend Mother’s Day in New Hampshire with my daughter and granddaughter. How much love! Like a sponge, every time we’re together I always soak in every moment. Lots of laughter, play, hugs, kisses, and singing! However, there was something or other in their hundred year old house that irritated my eyes and lungs, so once I returned home, I coughed for a couple of months and couldn’t sing for a long time.

In May, I also joyfully became a Florida Notary Public. And performed my first official wedding for Jessica and Phillip Walling, May 21st, 2016 at a beautiful outdoor venue. If you know anyone getting married in the Central Florida area, Tampa Bay area, or eastern part of Florida, let me know! It thrills my soul to be able to officiate weddings! I love being able to bring two people together with love and harmony.

The most fantastic news came by June–my daughter had conceived again!! And the most aWEsOMe of news was that… she’s having TWINS!!!!

The summer seemed to keep me busy… I attended several different meetups and finished several books.

In September, instead of my usual pilgrimage to New Hampshire for my granddaughter’s birthday, I’d learned that my daughter’s father and his wife were going to visit. So, that freed up my schedule. And I took advantage of this for ME! I took a once in a lifetime trip to Sedona AZ.

Unlike any other vacation, this trip was just for my Self, with two facilitators I have met and worked with, along with twelve other like-minded ladies, most of whom were unknown to me before the journey, but most became friends! I was full of Energy the whole time I was in Arizona, and felt like a kid again while hiking and exploring!! You can read the blog article I wrote about my Sedona trip here.

The downside was that while I was away, my husband fell and broke his wrist and our fridge quit working. I came home to my hubby needing me to help him get out of a shirt, empty and clean out our fridge, wash dishes (which he normally does), and so on. Our joke was that I climbed five mountains in five days and didn’t even break a nail, but he fell coming into the RV and broke the first bone he’s ever broken in his life. We tried any way we could to make light of the situation, so that I wouldn’t feel bad about having taken my solo vacation, and to help him heal and not feel depressed about not being able to play guitar, and not feel guilty about not being able to do regular household tasks.

However, three days after I arrived home from Sedona, I began coughing. Eventually, and not soon enough, I went to see my naturopath, Maggie. If only I had went to see her sooner, I’d not have suffered for a month or more! I found some relief as soon as I took the first homeopathic remedy–which, I realize, sounds incredible!

Apparently, I’d had several different kinds of things going on. I had markers for viruses, mold, two kinds of flu, and mycoplasma. Physically, I was a hot mess. I made a vow to refocus my attention on getting well–and staying well!

In September, I met Dr. Ronald K. Porter at Miracles bookstore. Ronald teaches Pranayama breathing and yoga and this was a workshop that I definitely needed. (Cost: $10) A nagging nerve pain that I’d had in my right knee was healed during the workshop–only from my focus on learning the breathing techniques!! I was thrilled! I loved the class so much that I started going to Dr. Porter’s yoga classes at Metro and invited friends to join me! Also, when Ronald was teaching the Pranayama class at Miracles again, I invited my friend Karen to go with me–and we had a great time!

Also in September, I attended a free yoga movie night in Sarasota and bought six DVDs directly from the filmmaker ($100). At that event, I met a new friend and she invited to see Sadhguru (who would be in Sarasota a week later). As it turned out, I was given a promo ticket for writing a blog article about Sadhguru’s book launch event, and received a copy of his new book!) What’s really interesting about this, and totally synchronistic was that all of this occured just a week after finding Sadhguru on YouTube while searching for more videos on Pranayama breathing!

November brought more enlightening events. On the 9th I attended a healing workshop at Heatherhoney’s center in Brandon. There I met Veronica, who facilitated the event and used Young Living essential oils to raise our vibration. Now I have been a Young Living essential oils distributor for years, but I’ve only used the oils in my own self-care and to give as gifts when I meet someone in need. So I’m always happy to continue experiencing how I can share these healthy oils–this event gave me more ideas on sharing.

I arrived early to the meeting and talked with Veronica a bit about a friend of ours who is suffering with ALS. Veronica asked me if our friend would be open to Alternative treatments, and if I had heard of the Medical Medium. Anthony William, the Medical Medium, has millions of people listening to him. And now I am too. Naturally, I was super excited to learn that there might be other ways to help our friend, so I passed all of what I learned to our friend to potentially ease her suffering.

Mid November, I took six FREE meditation classes from BKTampa.org – Brahma Kumari’s on Saturday and Sunday mornings in Tampa. Yes, I had to make the effort to drive 20+ miles to attend, but it was so mind expanding! I am grateful that there are teachers who make themselves available to teach meditation to anyone who will take the time to learn.

In another synchronistic meeting, I was invited to, and attended a healing event at the beautiful and energy-filled Crystal Bay hotel in St Petersburg, where I received a word from Dr. Mark Tong about exercising and that I should continue doing so. How could he have known that I had ramped up my yoga and Pilates!! Wow! After the event ended, my friend Terri introduced me to Linda McCarthy. As Linda and I talked, I experienced God bumps, which always validates that a conversation is of utmost importance to me (or perhaps, to my Soul).

Linda and I talked outside of the hotel until nearly everyone had gone. She gave me the audiobook called, The Reconnection. This was only just a week after I had found Dr. Eric Pearl on YouTube!!!

As the year ended, it found me celebrating a full and robust year of learning and implementing many of the new found mind-body and spirit-filled tools, which have increased my confidence, health, and well-being to overflowing!

I continue daily to practice meditation, yoga, Pranayama breathing, Pilates (twice a week), and singing / chanting to reach a higher and deeper sense of self and spiritual connectivity with our Ever-Living, Filling-All-Space, LIMITLESS Creator. Oh what a profound and beautiful year it has been!

Are you scared of Yoga?

Yoga isn’t just for thin and fit young women… ohh nooooo! Why then, would you be scared of Yoga?

If you’ve ever walked into a yoga studio and been made to feel anything less than beautiful, no matter your age, weight, skin tone, gender, hair color, or personal style, then honey, that group wasn’t for you anyway.

Or, if you’ve ever thought that you’re just not flexible enough to do yoga, think again! Only with practice does flexibility come. No one has ever became a yoga guru overnight! And no one will expect that perfection from you. It’s all about the progress, not perfection in yoga. No one is born a master.

In a yoga class, each of us are so busy working on getting into a posture and breathing in it, that we aren’t looking at you anyway. Sure, there may be the occasional glance, but our purpose in class is to focus on self, breathe and connect with our own mind and body, all the while feeling the support and building our confidence by feeling supported by a caring teacher who will guide us.

This is why I delightfully invite you, if you’re anywhere near the Tampa Bay area of Florida, to meet Dr. Ronald Porter and come to one of his uplifting classes.

I attended Dr. Porter’s “Yoga FUNdamentals!” class yesterday (one of the series of experiential learning classes he offers on a monthly basis at Miracles Metaphysical bookstore in St. Petersburg, FL) and he did a brilliant joy (er, job) of leading an older group of us (many of whom had never moved their bodies much at all, much less had done yoga before) in yoga. Plus, he taught us how he came to learn and teach yoga, the proper way the positions (asanas) are done, the Sanskrit words for each asana, and how to modify it for our body and ability. We moved very slowly, breathed, and held the asana for 3 to 5 minutes.

I woke up this morning feeling ten years younger, lighter, and with no muscle soreness at all! In fact, yoga can help you live longer, because with a flexible spine you’ll be able to do more, and not hurt when you bend over and pick something up from the floor. With practice, yoga will enable your body to flex, thus allowing  you to feel younger! Yoga is a process. But, it won’t take long, with consistent practice, for you to feel, and then see, a transformation in your body.

In the Fundamentals playshop, Dr. Ronald K. Porter lead us in an exploration of the basic philosophy and fundamental poses of yoga.  We all learned and practiced right along with him. We smiled, and laughed. It was experiential! And it was fun!

During Ronald’s class, we could obviously see Ronald’s mastery of yoga, yet we could also see, hear, and feel that this master has transcended ego. He never made us feel “less than” anything! In fact, because Ronald says, “beautiful” so much during class, he has me saying it more now in my everyday life. Positivity abounds!

The journey of yoga is a lifelong process, and the student who is open to this process can experience an entirely new readjustment and realignment in their life.  We invite you to laugh and have fun learning this wonderful technique for better health! People have diminished or eliminated anxiety, eased stress, calmed nerves, and lessened depression by practicing yoga. Some have even replaced their smoking habit, or other addictive habit with yoga–it’s very beneficial for you since it’s all about the mind-body connection. And if you’re on prescription medication for a chronic health issue, over time, you may find you’ll need less of those meds!*

If you’re taught properly, yoga is simply about connecting your breath to your body.

Yoga means “to yoke with”. The history of yoga indicates it was thought that by practicing yoga you could enter a meditative, contemplative state of mind, and establish right relationship with God, or the Divine. Whether you want to explore yoga for spiritual reasons, or to relieve your body of pain or chronic dis-ease, don’t let anyone judge you into not coming to a yoga class.

If you aren’t local to our area, or for any reason whatsoever still scared to try a public yoga class, you can always go to YouTube or Gaiam TV online and find a beginner video to watch. Begin moving your body in rhythm with your breath. Do five minutes of yoga. Then build to ten minutes, and so on. Until you feel ready to come out and join a group. The energy you’ll feel while in a group experience is so much richer than going it alone, that within a couple sessions, you’ll really enjoy it.

Yoga is for everyone!  Whether your tall, short, round, thin, male, female or transgender, yoga has the potential of being very beneficial for your life.  Often, when people think of yoga they imagine lean and slender persons contorting their bodies into positions that look painful, and even disturbing.  Every now and then I am even asked, “Hey, can you demonstrate that pretzel position?”  It’s sad to think that many people miss out on yoga simply because they have been led to believe it is not for them.

However, yoga is for us all!

I have overheard some people say they’re scared of yoga for religious reasons. Well, that is simply misinformation. If you’re thinking that a yoga teacher is going to attempt to convert you into becoming a mystic, read this.

Some of you may feel intimidated at the thought of yoga, but again, everybody has to start somewhere. We’ve all been new. It’s really okay! Just start wherever you are! And if you tried a class somewhere and felt pressured to perform a posture that was too much for you, or worse, you were called out in any way, you have my assurance — you will not feel that way in Ronald’s yoga classes.

Ronald’s soothing voice and calm manner was one of the first things that attracted me to his classes. When Ronald says to, “breathe d-e-e-p”, you will feel the tension melt away, and as you breathe deep, you’ll feel the ease of your body. I am blessed in those moments. And if I didn’t feel like I fit in when I arrived, I feel it then!

Each week, I look forward to the energy and the flow that I feel during our yoga class, the relaxation, and the healing that takes place. No one has to prod me to attend. I even sleep better after attending a yoga class!

Try it, you’ll like it!

You’ll find a group at Ronald’s classes who are kind, supportive, and loving. You may not get to know them all at once, because since yoga is about our “self” you might find more introverts practicing yoga. However, over time, as you come to class and practice next to someone, mat to mat, you will see that we are all each on our own journey. Yet, We Are All Connected.

Along my life’s journey I have learned that if I do not judge others, they do not judge me. And I think that’s a pretty good mind set and way to live, whether on or off the yoga mat.
